random27 - Byzantine 551-578 AD beat carpenkm - Palmyran 258-273 AD 62-51

My last battle in this division , like always against carpenkm , a difficult one , i think we are on a quite similar level , no matter the armies we re playing :)
In this one the palmyrians chose to wait byzantian lancers around a hill they wanted to defend.
Archers of both armies reduced the number of fighters.
Some lucky pursuits of byzantine gave them the final victory but it could have been for the other side without some rallies for byzantine.
Thanks for the game , thanks again pete for this wonderful competition , i don t find an army that suits for me for late antiquity , but fighting against many opponents with one army for 9 games is always a big pleasure.

(3-1)
Thanks for another epic match. It nearly went to the end and I though I had come back when the two lancers broke, but it wasnt to be and you won again! Well played and very enjoyable (if a little bit nerve wrecking!). We will meet again!!!

Division B

lydianed (Arab) beat IMC (Arab) 60:47

The difference in both of these close paired games was slender and revolved around the effectiveness of camels. Thanks to IMC for two great games.

Division E

gamercb (Scots-Irish) beat LindsayCole (Pictish) 57-23.

The Scots-Irish pushed forward in the centre and on the right whilst the chariots pinned the Picts infantry on the left. The Pictish light horse attempted to delay the Scots-Irish on the left but they were able to rout the Pictish light chariots, opening the Pictish left flank for the infantry to role around and threaten the flank of the Pictish line. Good fortune saw the Scots-Irish drive the Pictish centre whilst the Scots-Irish left flank began to crumble but too late to save the Pictish from defeat.

by Morbio
Division B

Morbio (Jewish Revolt) defeats Kraff (Persian with Hunnic allies) 61 - 49.

A titanic struggle in which the Judean line was long and the Persian narrow. The Persians moved to their right flank and secured a hill, which was foolishly assaulted by the Jews who suffered badly and were ultimately destroyed. Meanwhile the Judean centre and right marched to left to the hill whilst peppering the Persian skirmishers and cavalry with arrows, which in time broke them. When the centre and right reached the left then a more even battle was engaged and eventually the Judean quality won the day. It was a close battle which could have gone either way at the end. My thanks to Kraff for a great game.

Edit: now has 9 wins, but just missed out on a 36 point maximum.

Thanks for the game, if it had continued another turn I think the score would have been much closer and hence not end.

Division E

gamercb (Scots-Irish) defeated Bluefin (Roman) 62-39

The chariots managed to get around the Romans left flank by the waters edge and then helped the infantry by charging the Romans in the rear. The right flank saw a combined force of infantry and chariots just hold off the Roman cavalry whilst a fierce battle was fought in the centre.

by Nijis
Division B

Nijis (Mongol) defeats desertedfox (Anglo-Norman) 50-21.

Rough terrain and a marsh prevented the Norman knights from launching a massed charge that could have run down and devastated the lighter Mongols. The horse archers were able to prevail in a chaotic battle.
