Well, I was definitely historical!!!!!

I must admit that this is very, very educational in many respects.
I am looking forward to the extension of these basic rules into other areas and periods.

In some respects it resembled a naval battle with units of both side's lines interpenetrating their foe and trying to engage from the rear.

At least our right wing won and was able to disengage....

Thanks for a good game!

A large wood surrounded by hedged fields in the middle of the map made it hard to form ordered lines. My left was cut off early from my main force to the right. The battle could have ended with either side winning, but in the end I think luck was on my side...

Just finished a Magnificent battle with Doyley50.

His Royalists (66%) came within a hair of overthrowing my line of Parliamentary heroes (41%) before a series of fortunate breaks gave me the victory

As you can see from the casualty reports it was an extremely bloody affair.

Those looking for a limp-wristed dandified hanky-waving Royalist foe would be well-advised to look elsewhere.

It was indeed a hard fought and bloody battle, Shawkans' infantry behemoth caused confusion and dismay to begin with, but later the battle tended to break up into desperate smaller actions, and the Roundheads ultimately prevailed. Thanks for a first class battle.There will be much sorrow and grief in the NW at this unhappy outcome.

As our army entered the South we found Lord Deadtorius awaiting in a good defensive position, on a hill, with marshes covering his left flank and a pond to the front, but despite all this our brave troops carried the position in a frontal assault. God save the King!

News of a glorious win for the King and the Bubblettes! (There will be many bubbles in the pool tonight!) Blathergut (Roy.) 12% versus iandavidsmith (Parl.) 41%. A hard-fought battle that saw much dithering on the Royalist part at the start (since we didn't want to go up into a battle line completely behind hedges) and just about every unit in both armies fighting at one point. Thanks for an interesting game!!! (Sends you a bubblette as a consolation prize!)

With two results yet to be reported, the country state is Neutral with a tiny lean to the King (-1 overall). I will try to post 1643 rules additions later today or tomorrow, got a plane to catch this afternoon.

Thanks Keith. It would be good to have sight of those whilst we are waiting.

Report from Lowlands:

The Scottish coward hid behind hedges from the very start of the battle. So it was for the King's brave men to either step back and wait for the Scottish cowards to come out in the open and fight (which I guess they never would have done), or I had to send the King's brave men to attack the Scottish cowards. The choice was easy as brave men attack! Said and done I started maneuvering to form a line ready to attack. Eventually the attack could start and soon the first Scottish broke, but the Scottish had some good gun powder and did lots of damage to my brave men. Even though, the King's men could force their way through the Scottish line. But as the sun set, the Scottish had caused more damage than the King's. So the King's men had to withdraw from the battlefield, but still in order...

Scots 39% won vs Royalists 45%

A very close battle. In the last 5 turns or so, it was impossible to tell which side would win. As the result above shows, it was a very close and bloody battle. Especially as most of the fighting started first with about 10 turns left of the game. If not one or two Scottish units had rallied from being broken, the result could have been the other way.

The following is a plea/suggestion to RBS (if you read this)... Of course I'm speaking as one of the players of this battle, but I'd like P&S to have the concept of Draw games. As some battles (not many, but some) end without one side being able to achieve neither the 40%/25% or 60% goals, I therefore think there's a place for Draws. I'm not sure how things works right now, but say a battle ends in 0% vs 0% and just 1 man was killed. Would the side having lost that man lose the battle? In Field of Glory a battle can end in a Draw, why not in P&S? I know the P&S game engine does not have the concept of a Draw, but it shouldn't be too hard scripting? In BA/BA2 I'm using a simple script to allow battles to end in a Draw. As I wrote, just a plea...
