I think we are going through a phase in the tournament's history where the A divisions are a little bit uneven at the moment. This season I would only rate Early Middle Ages and High Middle Ages as genuine full-on A divisions, whereas I would say that the top divisions in Classical Antiquity, Late Antiquity and Biblical are really what I would call "A/B" divisions (Division B of High Middle Ages this season was also an "A/B" division). I think we have either lost completely a number of the very top players (e.g. Macedonczyk, Ludendorf, pompeytheflatulent), or a number of other top players have "down-sized" their participation in the tournament, maybe permanently. I think most of this is just natural churn as players feel it is time to move onto another game, but I am hoping the release of FOG2 Medieval might rekindle some of their enthusiasm this year. In any event, it means that there is plenty of room for new players to establish themselves in the top echelon of the tournament.

Aetius39 (Byzantines) defeats edb1815 (Bretons) 57-30

The Breton infantry was no match for the Byzantine lancers who would disrupt, then charge in at them. There were a lot more of the Bretons though, so the Byzantines had to strike fast on their left, while holding the right, before they could horde envelope them. The Bretons put up quite a good fight till then end, bruising the Byzantines badly. GG!

Weekly round-up
A big upset in Division A this week saw ninth-placed Challenge1 (Roman) defeat the previously unbeaten Questar17 (Etruscan). With LuciusSulla (Achaemenid) defeating nyczar (Spartan) in the clash involving the other unbeaten players in the division, it now means his match with third-placed harveylh (Macedonian) could now decide the outcome of this division. A win for LuciusSulla will definitely give him the championship. At the bottom Challenge1 defeated lunecastle (Seleucid) to relegate his opponent. In Division B Stew101 (Numidian) maintained his unbeaten record to draw alongside long-time leader tyronec (Syracusan) but he has played one match more. Both have still to play batesmotel (Roman). At the bottom still no joy for Swuul (Samnite) and Trogilus (Thracian) who have now both lost 6 matches this season. It was a quiet week in Division C where toska (Syracusan) registered a fifth win to move up to third, but in Division D things are starting to look very good for carpenkm (Ptolemaic) after snooky51 (Indo-Skythian was beaten by bottom of the table Blagrot (Hannibal in Italy) this week. With doomben (Gallic) is now in the relegation place with 2 matches left to play. In Division E all the main issues have been decided, but this did not deter ggarynorman from finishing with 2 more victories to secure third place. In Division F gjhabcvhj (Hannibal in Italy) defaulted on his last 2 matches to move Delbruck (Achaemenid) 5 points clear at the top, and to give telesien (Samnite) a second victory to leave Brenmusik (Slave Revolt) with the wooden spoon for this season.
