I think we need commanders in the reserve as people tend to become busy with other things once in a while. At the moment however I think there are too few battles and too many commanders.
The campaign is slow. About one battle a month. I wouldn't be happy playing a battle every second month...

I agree. However, only a week ago it seemed like Allies were Pdaddy Guardsmans and me, although Coreysr and Iprop did reappear each.
I had an idea for how to make a campaign-tourney which I sent cavehobbit, that would create many more games but it still needs a lot of campaign mechanics to be figured out. I was thinking about each player playing each map for the day's battle against 1 person on the other side apiece, so for example if 5 battles on June 13th AM, you would play all five maps against one each of our guys. The numbers and available units per BG would have to modified for it to work mathematically but I think it would be more fun with less unit limits per game and more people playing. I had an idea that the available units would be increased 5X per BG and the total losses per day debited. Harder to manage than what we have now, because all the math is 5X tabulated and recorded. I always find 20 versus 25 as a terribly small battle force for the attackers. Frankly, if Monty attacked only when he was at 4:5 odds on the offense, I think he would have resigned. And with the wide expanse of certain maps, and all the nooks and cranys in Caen, its a wonder we can stay interested in the battles themselves sometimes.
Another advantage I think to larger fielded forces and a more populous BG force pool would be that the individual games played would return more to a BA feel or at least a Tourney game feel, and I think that is more fun than the tactical dodging I am having to do in Rauray...lol....

I had hoped to give you some feedback and ideas this weekend, but other things needed my attention. Hopefully I will have some time this week to come back to you. But the idea is interesting. I really like the strategic campaign game GJS offer as much as playing BA, but there are some things in the campaign system that could be improved like the 20 vs 25 in a attack/defend game. As I told some I have plans to run another campaign using the GJS system when this campaign is over. But with the experience from GJS my intention is to change things that worked less well in GJS. Nothing has been written down yet, but a thought I have is that several BGs could make an combined attack on an enemy BG. The limit of units in a battle would be what BA allows (64 per side at the moment).
The campaign I'm planning will be set in France 1940, be played during only three days and depict the battle of Hannut (first major tank battle in ww2). But each day will be divided into several rounds, how many is still to be decided.
But for the tourney/campaign, we could use the GJS strategic map to work out and play test a rule system. Many of the sectors have already been converted into BA maps so it would be quite easy to set up scenarios.
More thoughts and ideas to come...

Well let's leave this new campaign to another time! Weren't we planning on OU'44? Im lookign forward to that! Hopefully we Germans get some Paratrooper BGs in our force pools! And Panzer Grenadiers! Perhaps new tank destroyer BGs as well (M18s M10's vs Hetzers and Jagdpanzers, or Japdpanthers)

Can i get something clarified? How is the 5/AL retreating into a German occupied territory? In real life the last thing a retreating force would want to is head towards an supposedly occupied sector. Even if no ones there its rather weird. Unless we are using Panzer Corps rules, this move makes no sense militarily...... Then again i now control Caen even when i was heavily outnumbered and outgunned so i shouldnt be bringing it up

5AL/6 is not retreating into a German occupied territory. With the very complex situation in and around Caen, and also affected by the battle in Bois, I've placed 5AL/6 on the border of Caen/Colombelles until the battle in Bois has ended. If you look in the order list you can see that 5AL/6 moves through Caen before I/12/12SS attacks the city. But 5AL/6 moves after 26/12SS in Colombelles, but 26/12SS can't move until the battle in Bois has ended. That is why the map looks a bit strange.

Abbaye ends with Germans total victory with all 5 VPS. Whatever units that are left will be dissolved. The war is over for the 1/79! My vengeance for Lebisey is complete

won't be easy retaking the city back after heavy losses

Updated OOB and Strat map after Abbaye.
1/79 had nowhere to withdraw to and was dissolved and suffered these additional losses: 1x Eng, 1x HMG, 1x Mortar, 1x Roo, 1x AA, 1x Sherman. It's still alive with 2 units…

Rauray is out there too, with our fine Allied forces about to also be dissolved there because of lack of retreat lines. Not really sure where to fit all the stuffing in the turkey of Normandy to provide all BG's with lines of retreat. Besides, old Winston said retreat was not an option.
