I got there in the end by just adding auxiliaries, mostly in the form of AT and artillery and some infantry to hold St. Vith.
Still took all 35 turns and didn't fancy it again!
I overlooked recon. Doh.
Finished the campaign now and both Balaton (that followed for me) and Berlin were pretty easy. King Tigers and Stukas minced the Russian armour in Balaton and Berlin was a 100% infantry and fighter job!
The main thing I found was how this plays differently to PC1, especially in regard to auxiliaries, switching units on the battlefield, the exchange/upgrade/reserve options between scenarios.
