screen no problem, power for OOB is more for GPU so a good card in a medium powered laptop would be fine for it, just make sure it's got 2gb of ram, and then a i5 cpu etc and you will be fine

so no onboard VGA, make sure and ask, for a dedicated card

Thanks, I'll see what laptops the local shop has got in stock then post their specs in this thread so you guys can tell me which one to buy..:)
(PS- for anybody whose wondering, OOB stands for Order of Battle, sorry I should have made it clear)

Okay I've been browsing the local shops online catalogue, there are about 20 laptops in there ranging from cheap to expensive-
https://computerbase.co.uk/index.php/sh ... ks-laptops

The most expensive is 499 GB pounds (634 US dollars) so shall I buy that one on the assumption that it's more powerful than a cheaper one?
It's this one on page 2 of their catalogue, does it sound alright to you?-
EXTENSA 15.6IN NOTEBOOK
Acer Intel i5-7200 U Dual Core
15.6" HD
8 GB RAM
256 GB SSD
Win 10 Home 64-bit

There are several laptops on the market that are more for gaming... while gaming and laptop is a special combination at best... well, anyhow you should look for some dedicated graphics (GPU)... I also don't really want to promote any specific manufacturer or model on this forum but maybe compare this one (or similar):

Thanks, but 1700 GBP (2100 USD) is a tad too pricey for me, especially as I only want to play medium-complexity/medium graphics-intensive games on it (like Order of Battle), so a high-end super-duper job is not really necessary..:)

OK, understood. Maybe try to get the complete specs for your above choice. I didn't see anything on the graphics, if it is only an Intel (shared) graphics chip without dedicated graphics RAM it might not be enough for new games such as PzC2, maybe compare the recent discussion here:
http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 64&t=91534

Here they mention 2 GB of V(ideo)RAM:
http://slitherine.com/products/684/deta ... er.Corps.2

So this seems to be the (latest) minimum for "medium graphics-intensive games".

A laptop in the price range of € 1000 will be sufficient to play all but AAA action shooters, where high frame count and very smooth visuals are mandatory, or if you want 4K screens.

I have a 4 year old Asus laptop, Intel i7, 6 GB RAM, no SSD, NVidia 840M, and I can play all Slitherine and Paradox games at the highest settings (although initial loading the games can sometimes take a few minutes). I am going to put in some more memory and a large SSD in the near future, but not because it is unplayable, but I want shorter startup times.

If you search for 'gaming laptop' in the €1000 price range, you will find lots of offers today with better specs than my laptop.

an I7
with plenty of fast ram, 8 to 16GB is more than another
a SSD not a hard drive about 1TB, yes you will pay more, but 512GB is ok for less games installed and more than enough for most, but 256GB is somewhat on the ok side if not

and a 8 GB VGA card, not a onboard cutdown bolted on on die CPU addon

imo

but for that you will be paying in £1500 to £2000 inc
