The final tally came as a bit of a surprise: It seems retreating was the Seleucid commander´s most inspired decision on that rather disastrous day!

It's worth mentioning here that I had a disproportionate share of the luck in this battle. Not just one but several of my units stood firm for multiple turns against far better quality units; this was particularly remarkable of irregulars who, under pressure in the open from heavy units like phalanxes, have a tendency to shatter like glass due to low combat odds making bad defeats more likely and the -1 cohesion test modifier. On top of that (and even discounting the flank attacks I got in) I won the vast majority of 'even' melees across the field.
