Well, that's 2% savings in RPs. :D Thanks for the info, Gabe. The prices should be the same, though, and since they are not, it is perhaps because of the rounding up. It just seems the rounding up is done too early or sthg. :?: Looks like something that would have resulted in fail back in school (a loooong time ago).

Look at it that way: in statistics, 2.3 people still means at least three!

That's true. For instance here the average number of children in a family is 1.85 yet I've never seen these "fraction kids". ;)

That was actually useful to understand! (the bit where you conclude small repair = large repair in terms of cost per strength point repaired; the rest was not so much) Thank you.

PS: Sorry Halvralf, if we're spoiling your thread
Well I actully find it interesting so no worries :D .

Inspired by Mojkos ARR I tried to copy his way of doing it. This time I got a much better result. Now I can afford my fighters in Demyansk. 8)

The AI ofc didn't react as in Mojkos excellent play and I made a couple of mistakes but in all I'm happy! Thanks guys for theorycrafting and giving advice to a newbie!

Nice job soldier! Remember that saving RPs early has a snowball effect because the earlier you can get more powerful units the less RPs you spend on repairs which will let spend those repairs on more powerful units and cycle goes on ;-)

Btw, I'm not a very big fan of mobile AT guns. These overpriced and CP intensive units are no match for my Flak 88. Not to mention that you actually get mobile AT guns as aux units anyway.

In addition the Flak 88 can naturally be used as an AA gun, too, making it very cost-effective indeed. Notwithstanding, I do like StuGs also, but only them.

@Mojko To clarify how AT Guns work. Do they use their attack value when supporting? I have asked the same question in an other thread btw.

The combat prognosis changes from 9+ to 10 damage on an attack/defense difference of 24/0 for inexperienced units.
An AT gun supporting shows first 10 damage on a difference of 25/0, ergo the damage is reduced by only 1. It's possible that it's rounded up for a base attack of 1.

I'm actually not sure about this one. I suspect that there is some kind of penalty as it feels that the damage is generally weaker. However, this is difficult to assess because some AT guns like Flak 88 have "Defensive weapon" trait with makes them suffer attack penalty when they attack on their own. You can improve their attack by choosing the "Pakfront" specialisation. I personally used Flak 88 throughout both Blitzkrieg and Panzerkrieg campaigns with lot of success.

Does it really matter?..:)
They provide great support so why look a gift horse in the mush? Here are some AT-support tests I ran.
Firstly on its own in 'A' the 88 has 3+ hitting power against a Sherman, and in 'B' that's what happens when it fires in support of the infantry, it knocks a whopping 4 strength points off the Sherman (including help from the inf who threw grenades and stuff).
For comparison I also ran the same test with a 37mm Pak 36, in 'C' we see it has 0+ hitting power on its own, and in 'D' that's what happens when it supports the infantry, knocking off 1 strength point from the Sherman-
(PS- you know of course that when a supporting ATG fires, the result doesn't show immediately, it only shows as a combined inf/ATG result after the inf have thrown their stuff)

Spike, if you like to test this on your own, you should use defending trucks without own attack values to test supporting AT gun damage.
Otherwise, I've already told above that it looks like that AT guns on defense seem to have their mech-att value only lowered by 1 point. The damage is still somewhat randomized, so it's difficult to say how much damage exactly. Unfortunately, I couldn't really get smart of the game code yet to provide better information about this.

Hello Spike! Well for me it does as I want to be sure I get most bang for the buck. In Panzerkrieg the new 75mm PAK is more expensive than the "old" but lovely Flak 88 . As Panzerkrieg is very RP demanding I want to optimize my core force and as a result of that I tried to get a grip of what mechanic AT in support uses.

At first (whole Blitzkrieg :D ) I was choosing AT support from the defense value...
And if I only could get a grip on how the scenario editor works I'd try doing what you are doing in those very nice pictures . Thanks Spike very helpful!!!

PS- I know that Spike :

@ Mojko How did you know I was aiming for Pakfront :D . Well not there yet by far as I wanted to get this AT topic settled first.

PS- there's a lightweight Editor manual here-
http://www.the-artistocrats.com/scenari ... r-preview/

and a heavier version here-
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B72noH ... lnNmc/view

and if you cut corners you can build test scens real quick, it only took me 5 minutes to set up the ATG tests which I posted earlier..:)

The last 3 or 4 dlcs have been all about resource starvation mate, this means that you have to play slow, methodical, and don't buy units just to try them out.
Basically, huge clusters of combines arm tactics, with lots and lots of infantry in front, at behind and arty behind them again, 30-50% fighters to shoot theirs down fast so they don't damage you expensive bombers. AA guns near arty and a few tanks where needed. I personally really like the recon cars, they are fast movers to get into flanking position, not necessarily attacking with them but so that you take less damage on you infantry, go slow, and ignore some of the more frivolous secondary objectives is my advice for a less frustrating game where you can never afford to have anything at full strength, also, one of the best tips is to "save" the upgrading on units till they are badly damaged. You then get a free repair basically.
Wish you well in your endeavours, this is one of my favourite games, even though i play more of the earlier dlcs than the newer one because resource starvation is such a thing nowadays. In the earlier dlc's you could buy units to "try them out and have fun with them"
