Go into data/scenario and remove the 1939.data to 1944.data files so they become recompiled.

I deleted every file on my machine and then installed MH - which only creates one start file/icon so it can't be pointing to anything else - I can also find and delete the .dat files on the new build

I will try the new version of 4 - see what that does

I did note on the install that lots of folders didn't exist in MH! e.g all the unit type folders for images

Did you then run the installer for 3.1 then copy over the v4 files into the 3.1

Try to rename the background and backgroundnames folders to verify that the game will load without having any map at all shown. If you still get the map shown then the game finds the map files in a different folder than you think.

If the game loaded without maps when you renamed background and backgroundnames then we know where to look to solve the issue. So please try this and tell me the result.

I also didn't get an answer WHERE you have got your GS v4.00 files? PC or MAC version and did you use the latest link posted a few days ago?

I will try the background folder rename - are still left from MH build, there where a lot not in SUB folders

also Max reports some convoys safely passing over SUB's wonder what that is?

ok so its hard to load a game without those folders lots of white on white menus.

I get no minimap but I do get some of europe - also the new 4.0 build doesn't recognize the turn correctly and tells me its an axis turn when its an allied

ok same thing - lose some stuff but large map still there - I will try to remove everything form the 4 install (which doesn't recognise 4c turns correctly and start again to 4c - which I think did recognise the turns)

Have you scanned your entire PC for map50_nogrid.png to check if you have other folders containing that file.

any other way than search using windows? - that finds nothing!

so using search in the folders I found 4 deleted them, ran the game, same problem and now can't find any of them - shouldn't running the game have created them?

sorry I mean't no .dat files should I search for and kill map25_nogrid.png map50_nogrid.png map100_nogrid.png then copy the latest 4 c (after download) into background and background names?

You should not use the Mac files at all if you are using Windows!
Only files that are for PC.
If have a Mac it is totally different. MacOS JAVA uses
An archive for the class files. If you try to get
the individual class files, some will not work on PC
and totally corrupt the game.

hold on - are you now saying the 4c update download had both MAC and PC files in it? (that's not how the preceding conversation went) there are two folders in the initial download, one that's MACOSX and one that's 4.00 charlie etc..

so that folder should be ignored for PC users?

the final has been released

You don't need to delete the map50_nogrid.png files. Just notice the folders you find them in.

The easiest thing for you to do is to get rid of all CEAW and GS files you have on your computer. Then you reinstall the vanilla CEAW game. Then you download GS v4.00 from the link in the first post in this thread. Then you install those files.

All this provided you run Windows and not MAC OS. If you're mixed up MAC and PC files then some files can be present that will corrupt your installation.

has anyone updated to 4 from Slitherines MH version?

so I have installed from scratch MH Gold, then installed the 4 update over it - never having done anything else, not even started MH gold, when I start for the first time and play a hot seat the US map is wrong - any ideas?
