Well, to be honest, I am not a big fan of this "indie" look.
I just prefer the good old Panzer Corps units style. Making new infantry units is one of the easier thing compared to making new planes or tanks from scratch. You can use the vanilla units and just change the colour here and there and you have a new looking unit. And

BNC is absolutely right. It is one thing to create a new unit icon, but it is much harder to make appropriate matching animations. So I would also suggest to use existing unit icons as for those you can use the existing unit animations.

For example our friend Gary Childress made some nice infantry for both sides a while ago:
I would definitely use these, or variations of these as I think they are superb. I know that for example the Nationalists had a sand yellow uniform as well for those Moroccan Regulars and they might had a red hat, but the above icon can be easily recoloured to get the desired result. You can also use these to your idea to have different "levels" of infantry by erasing one or two figures. Just always keep in mind the animations. For the above ones I think the Bridge Engineer animation fits nicely as it only has rifle fire (submachine guns were not very common in the Spanish Civil War if I am right.)

It is also fairly easy to make irregular infantry - you just need to recolour some parts of their uniform to make look like random civilian cloths - just like I did for the partisans in my mod:

Again, I am not a big fan of side view unit icons as they differ from the original ones and if you intend to use original icons as well then they will look awkward on the map next to each other. So why do not you just pick some of those oldie looking truck icons that were made by some icon makers here?

ok i see ... i will give it some more tries before going on, but it will take some time ... i' ll let u know how's going

Maybe with a bit of editing they can be made too look more like pzc icons.

Not too bad in-game, maybe a tad darker?.

Latro those are really nice tank units. I am going to add them to my files.

I found the attached set of Portugese units but I do not have the units as individuals, only the image I posted. If someone wants these made into individual vanilla style units for their files, I will make them and post them. Just send Pvt EMAIL on forum

Contrast in the PzC icons is very stark. When shading and highlighting the Indie ones very dark tones are apparently to be used for the dark areas.
Not achieved by adjusting the contrast and brightness values in the paint programme. I find.

hi guys,

here my first attempt to make a new plane from scratch ... i worked on a real photo to do it
this is a Vickers Vildebeest light bomber: what do u think over it? ... i want to start to populate my mod, but i would like to make some more practice before doing it ...

i told u ... u must have patiente with me ... i started learning GMP less than a week ago!!!
