Hi Simon,

I'm a little annoyed with the tournament rules regarding the army lists limitation.
Often the army list books propose more superior cavalry than average and the minima for the cavalry is only on the sup, for instance, the army list I would like to play is focused on infantry but has 8 superior cavalry minimum and no obligation for the average cav, it leads to have 4 mounted BG minimum and to an unbalanced army list (comparing to the one I'm used to play) !!
Could it be possible to say that the minimum in the army list is for all mounted BG average or superior. It would mitigate this restriction and help us to consider much more potential armies.

I hope to be clear enough (which is not obvious even in french...)

Thank you to comment,
Fabrice.

i agree with Fabrice. Normally tournaments like the worlds are open book without many other restrictions.
The army I had intended to use has also fallen foul of this in and I would have preferred this to be in bases.
As my army was going to have 2 x 2 Hvy Sup P/p and 1 x 4 Ave Sup p/p. Now I cannot use it even though on a base count I would have as much Average as Superior.

cheers
JIm

Hi everyone,

what my intent was with the limitations is to stop the mass superior armies (of which I have been guilty of).

In the UK, we've started moving more to having more average based competitions, which gives you something to attack rather facing a wall of superior troops.

We've seen the rise of the Imperial Spanish armies with 2 Elite foot, 2 Heavy Armour Cuirassiers and 5 superior foot, which is rather over the top. Yes, Jim, I'm looking at you. :D

Would you prefer a slight change to the restrictions and the army cannot have more than 50% of the battle groups being superior/elite troops?

This allows you to choose what you want to be superior, but, you still have to have some average troops on the table.

Simon

Hi,

Just to be clear, I'm happy with the limitations you proposed. The end goal is reasonable. I already faced twice Jim's army...and it was painful :-(

What I'm trying to say is just that the army list books are not always written in that spirit and we need some arrangements to make feasible (and usable) our favorite army list :-).

The new wording (the army cannot have more than 50% of the battle groups being superior/elite troops) should allow much more flexibility (it allows the army I intend to chose)

Thanks Simon,
Fabrice.

Morning Simon,

Happy with that tweak......Would have loved that army you described if it was possible but I make no apology for my 2 Elite and 3 Superior foot plus friends which was in response to the mass Superior horsey armies led by the likes of you. I also like the army for other reasons but its not the only army I have used.

See you soon
Jim

Yup, I know the mass superior horsey armies are a bit gamey, which is why I've started using more combined arms style armies.

So many armies to buy and paint up.

And you should make an apology for that scary Spanish army, it's horrid to face! 8) :P

See you at Britcon, you up for a beer or two?

Interestingly the last two FOG R World Championships were won using a mainly average army.
It is the quality of the general rather than the troops that win.
Alasdair used a heavy cavalry army at the BHGS Challenge which could only be 50% superior and he beat every army easily.

So the solution is to allow no more than 50% of Alasdair to participate...?

But the current World Champion is Ben who uses TYW French. Not much superior in that other than Ben.

You may want to say LF, (and possibly LH, Dragoons) and Artillery are not included in the calculation.
