I think Peter is missing that the specifications of the manoeuvre phase section apply only in that phase and not in the impact phase - much in the way that the Restricted ARea only applies in the manoevure phase. Thus there is no ambiguity or contradiction IMO.

Nik,
Moving from an overlap position is specified in the general movement section, so I don't understand your
argument here...!
Two of the options when an overlap are for the impact phase.
One is for the manoeuvre phase.
The last is for the melee phase.

Peter

You have one choice, either charge or not.
If you don't want to take a CMT you must choose charge.
If you fail the CMT you must choose charge.
If you pass the CMT you must choose not.
I agree with the above statment(s)

I think your fudging

Where does it say "must"? It says "can choose [one of 4 options]". One could therefore elect to
continue fighting as an overlap...

Sorry, my mistake.
You have four options.
If you don't want to take a CMT you must choose charge (or be exempt).
If you fail the CMT you must choose charge.
If you pass the CMT you must choose one of the non-charging options.

Under the Troops Who May Charge Without Orders rules on 58-59 there is nothing that says "you may choose to ignore these 2 pages if in Overlap."
Shock troops that pass the test not to charge "can move normally in the manoeuvre phase".

So basically in the Impact phase you have the options listed there and in the Manoeuvre phase the options listed there.
