does anyone know how to change the portrait graphic to transparent. I did one already but it just threw up black or grey images where the portraits were.
I'd like to try a mod where all unit portraits, message screens, anything that gets in the way of the battlefield graphics are transparent.

I did it with Field of Glory (which was much easier!) and it looked great and better for me to plan.

After a thousand or more battles(in both titles) I like to cut the graphics (other then then the present battle which I usually max zoom ! ) to the bare minimum.

Just put an all-black alpha channel. Do you have a program that does alpha channels?

not sure. I can't find alpha channels in paint.net, can't load an image with blender and dazzled with gimp. Gimp seems like it would work but I can not figure it out. Arrrg...............

From a quick Google you should be able to use alpha channels in Paint.NET. I still use Photoshop 5.5 as it's much easier to edit alpha channels with it than newer software frustratingly.

In case you cannot find a good portrait for a specific leader: here's a small series of icons for generic/unknown leaders, 1400s, 1500s and 1600s.

A thing worth mentioning is the UI 'stretch' that happens with widescreen resolutions, that I assume most people use.

One way to counter this would be to compress the portraits horizontally, so that when theyre streched they become normal.
