A low framerate in general or only during the AI turns?

There is a new setting in the options menu which allows pausing the AI during animations or low framerate. Do any of those help?

i7 4790k, 780GTX oc ed, 16gb, Win7 64bit

Graphics should be a cakewalk, it is the CPU.
During the AI turn I can notice the cooling kicking in, which means the CPU load is increasing (I try to run a silent rig).

During Midway for example the fps would drop during the IJN ASW cycle, hardly something that I expect to run heavy calculations.

Also it seems to increase as you play.

No, not really.

I don't know why a game of this magnitude is causing such problems, I suspect there's a coding error or a memory issue somewhere. It is like the calculations are made rapid fire and everything's trying to get done at once rather than taking things on a turn by turn basis. As it is, the game is unplayable for me as I can't stand the framerate drops and such.

So checking the option to pause AI calculations during animations didn't improve things?

Tried this during Bataan and it seems to improve the experience, you still notice frame drops because of the flag animation (imho something that might just as well be a setting itself), but at least the unit animations are more fluid.

Will try it in Midway to see if it also improves the IJN ASW cycle.

Still surprised at the CPU loading that OOBP seems to cause, I mean scalewise there are much bigger war games, so it feels like something is taking up an unusual ammount of CPU power.

But back to the short anser, yes there seems to be some improvement (for me).

Have you tried turning off the spinning flag (under Audio & Video)?

Yeah, the spinning flag is off.
I meant the capture point flags, should have made it more clear.
Thanks though.

You know I am playing on two systems, a notebook and a desktop.
I'd understand if the notebook drops a frame, it is a lightweight literally - i5 5200u and hd5500, but the desktop has ample power to run smoothly don't you agree?

Otoh, I am having a great time even on the notebook.
When the new 2d counters are added and you've further optimized the code I'll be in hog heaven :D

Glad to hear the 'Pause during animations' setting helps.

We're constantly looking for code optimisations...

No improvement from the new patch or disabled spinning flag.

Axis AI turn Horrible F--R-----A-M----E R---------A----T------ES.
For me this problem makes the game Broken.

Too bad... Very very good War game. Huge potential for more installments.

A possible idea, maybe as an option.

Have ability to shut off axis animation and movement. A Work around but May cure this issue and speed play.

There is a new setting in the patch that allows you to pause AI calculations during animations. Have you tried this?

Same problem for me!

Love the game, but the AI turn lags a lot! It is not fun!

There is a setting "Pause AI calculations" that allows you to reduce the lag issue . Have you tried this?

It takes ages to finish AI turn in all scenarios. Pausing animations and other solutions sugested doesnt help.

That could be the scenarios themselves, especially the custom designs. Try another campaign. If the issue persists, then look to the usuals: Sufficient hard drive space; disk defragmentation; anti-virus interference; game reinstallation.

I have to say I'm having the same issue of the AI turn taking forever, but not a frame rate issue. My frames stay in the 90 range. I'm playing Blitzkrieg, and in particular the invasion of Norway. I have the same issue with the AI turn taking ages, but it only does it when it's the friendly navy's turn. The other 2 enemy AIs don't cause this issue. I'd also add that I'm running this game on a SSD. Plus this has not happened in other scenarios to me. Of note when I completely exit the game, and load my last auto-save it goes through the friendly AIs turn in a matter of 2 seconds. There's definitely a bug there somewhere.
