Exactly as intended, one of the strategies for victory involves mechanised search and destroy tactics :)

It has a longer range and a higher supply value :)

All about the balancing, I think the fact that infantry now detect whilst in an M113 made it more relevant, the two vehicles I personally think have not reached the end of their balancing journey are the Cobra and the armor...

The Cobra is insane. Best bang for buck in the game. Not that I'm complaining.
Long reach. Great Range. Great standoff power. Works when wet!

However the needed GreenBerets are expensive. It balances some.

Most of my early game Cobra kills come from intel collected via village or ground combat.

The balancing journey continues and we are learning with every iteration and piece of feedback, so many thanks for the input

Cobra kills from ground combat / from intel collected via ground combat??
You mean after an NVA revealed after succeded in harming one of your unit? Revenge?!
Vietnam65 wrote:The balancing journey continues
If you make the Cobra more expensive, maybe make the GreenBerets at least half-this-increase less expensive?
(to help balancing the costs in the whole)

Intel collected from SUCCESSFUL ground combat. Successful ground combat often provides new intel (i.e., location of an enemy unit). Ostensibly, this reflects information obtained via interrogation of captured enemy or from any bits and pieces left behind on the battlefield that a victor controls. Ideally, you want to use US Infantry against VC since the success percentage is high (and even higher once those infantry get some experience), but even ARVN can do in a pinch...albeit at less of a probability of a successful engagement than with US infantry.

Oh, it never happened to me, or might I not having paid attention??
Maybe for I protect too much my US Infantry (I use many NVAs, US-Inf is however protecting front bases)..

Three intel sources in game

1. Getting it from village visits
2. Combat intel gathered from injured/dead enemy
3. Surveillance as done by the GB's

I find the mechanised infantry very useful in allowing an infantry unit in a base to keep watch on two or more relatively near villages. They can just hop into the vehicles and reach each village in one turn, and be back in base by the next.

It allows good wide local coverage. I use them much more for village management rather than for offensive combat.

Do you ever use the Armor though ?

I never use it, for my games are already finished before I can spare to buy those secondary tools in jungles..
I imagine they're not in my strategy, for I'm not very aggressive and am too slow to go reach close the west commie bases. I always feel the game ends too early, but here it's better than too late: I think it's better to goodly imagine how it could continue, than playing in an exploit artificial game bad phase.

Yes, I use one tank unit for offensive operations and to protect forward bases.

Thats good to hear, we struggled with balancing the armor, cobra and mech unit, not sure we got it 100% but we did try almost all variations ....

I usually end up with one tank, one cobra and one or two mechanised.

I tend to use the mechanised for village management, while the Cobra and tank are used to attack the enemy. To me that sounds logical.

I tend to get a decisive victory most tines on normal now. It that's ok. Sometimes I just like to play and win. Not everything has to be an intense nail biting challenge. Besides, even on normal, you can get into difficulties if you do something foolish.

The great thing is that the map changes every game, so the challenge is slightly different. If I ever want more challenge, I can up the difficulty to veteran. That's why it's so appealing. It appeals to hard core and casual gamers.

The two variables that will 'spice up' the game are the jungle density and the enemy setting, together they make it a real challenge
