Lack of Offline Skirmish.

I admit, I find it a startling omission. Doesn't make a great deal of sense to me, quite frankly, and I really PREFER MP to solo play.
That said, I don't think ANYONE here has said a skirmish mode isn't desirable -- devs included. They just indicated it wasn't in this release version. I have a hunch it'll show up down the line.
Face facts, this is one heck of a niche market. People do what they can with the resources they have. Ain't nobody buying Bentleys (not new ones anyway) with the proceeds from Legion: Arena. Let's offer good, civil advice and be willing to take the good with the bad...or is that the other way around?
BTW, my preorder was in last week

.

Well, Cyrano, I only hope that your "Down the Line" means "Whatever we don't have to pay for.". Besides, what sort of an advice do you want from me? I wanted a Skirmish-mode, that's all! Consider my request for a Skirmish mode an advice, then.

The battle system should more then make up for this. Maybe in Legion II Who knows.

If the battle system is all that great, it would be an even greater mess-up not to add a Skirmish-mode for me to play it down to its full potensial.

First of all, it is "pps" not "ps2"
Also, I have played the demoand, while i would normally agree with many of your sentiments, these 5 battles (and there is a
hundred in the full version?!?

) and it has a good amount of replay value right there, because the difficulty can go quite high i see (hard is actually hard here) and, as mentioned above, it is incredibly customizable. Sure, you always face the same opponent and they normally fight the same, but they do that in all rts's i have seen, regardless of map changes. The difference is that your army can be dramatically different everytime, and, as mentioned, an all-cavalry army fights very different from an all-infantry army. I suggest you follow earlier advice and try the demo (if you get a computer that can, of course. Somtimes you wish computers were always working and updated

). If you dont like it, tell us why, if you like it you can get the game.

Its not just that taking different troop types that makes the difference.
The units themselves are completly different depending on the upgrades you give them. One of the subtleties youll find is that whilst the tool tip will tell you that enemy units have been levelled up, you wont know the skills they have.
An example of this is skirmishers who have been trained in Anti Elephant skills. It don't half surprise the enemy when they take on his Nelephunts.
I love this feature when playing MP

Tried it.

Well! I've finally got my hands on the demo, and well, what can I say? The playstyle was... special to say the least. In the menu where I customized my army, I would have liked a few more options, but it was okay. The battles were okay too, allthough the men seamed to simply repeat the same moves over and over again in a sort of slow motion when in melee. Okay, so I hadn't expected the furious, lightning-fast, brutal melees as in Dawn of War and its expansion, or even the realistic blocking and parrying as in Rome: Total War, but this still looked a little static. However, the death animations looked splendid, and I'm pleased to see you made the Romans stab with their gladiuses, ("Gladi"?), instead of slashing with them like they were swords. My compliments for that.
Anyway, I don't see how this was supposed to affect my opinnion on the skirmish-mode at all. Besides, like I said, the better this game is, the more it screams out for a skirmish mode! My meanings remain unchanged. Fix this, people!

With a team of 3 people, one artist, one programmer and one designer we have to pick and choose our fights. If we tried to do everything the game would only be half finished. Our philisophy is to concentrate on certain things and make them as good as possible so that we ship a good fun game that has as few bugs and issues as possible. Other people may prefer the cram in as much as possible and ship approach, then patch later, but that's not how we do it

So... still no skirmish-mode guaranteed, then?

Just to clarify - there will not be a skirmish mode added to Legion Arena.

You mentioned skirmishers are good against elephants.... Can Light Cavalry be used for the same purpose?

Hi Sum1won
Most cavalry of this period were unfamiliar with elephants and so were very skittish. So taking on Elephants with your light horse is not recommended

Okay. Since it was mentioned that you shouldn't let your eleppahnts be flanked, I thought they might be useful.
Is there anything that Light Cavalry is especially good for, or is it really just weaker heavy cavalry?

They do not receive such high penalties when fighting in forests, rough ground etc, but they are till not good in those terrains.

Your telling me.. that this game was made with less then 6 people?????!!!??
If you are.. then HOLY CR*P!!! You guys rock. Most enjoyable game ive played in ages.. even if it took me less then 2 days to finish all the campains... any plans for letting users make thier own campains? incidently skirmish probably is a big oversight.. but not going to sit here and complain about it

right now im going to head back and do the campains on hard..

even if it took me less then 2 days to finish all the campains..
Wow, how many hours per day?? romans AND gauls??
You should try to complete the campaign in a higher difficulty level (objectives do change, I think) and using different tactics (no heavy infantry at all. no cavalry...)
