"Dash" is truly evil....in a fun way...Love the Idea of being pulled into different directions...with options..and with supposed time limitations...it is very challenging....

As one "Dashes" off to the Supply Dumps or Hangers...one is always looking/listening over one's shoulder...as the British garrison begins it's breakout...now what?...keep going?...will the Italians hold out?...Brits hiding tanks in Tobruk?..oh well...

I agree - Dash to the Wire is a good challenge, and possibly is one of the best scenarios in AC/AK and the DLCs.

There are a lot of things to do and many of them need to be done in a hurry when you'd rather be doing something else - get rid of the the British armour in time to get to the assembly points, find and destroy the supply dumps, decide what to do about the little group of besieged troops in the top right of the map, maintain the siege of Tobruk while holding off any relief forces and hunt down the hangars for bonus units (and try to get the other bonus unit) without weakening the other forces too much.
Better still, trying to do too much or not thinking it through can result in either missing out on some good rewards or having a really bad day.

DttW might be a good challenge, but Gazala is certainly not. How do you deal with all them minefields? That scenario can be really :evil:

Feel free to start a separate thread, and we can discuss it. (The Gazala Line isn't so hard, at least if you follow the real Rommel's strategy! Hint: Mines? What mines? :) )

I don't think they allowed the map far enough south for that strategy (about Gazala) Rommel went quite a bit south. And how many mines you meant to clear? 1? 2? 20? (So far been going for ~7)

When I last played Gazala a few days ago, I cleared exactly 3 mines, one in the Far North along the coast allowing me to support the Pionieres assaulting from the sea and another just North of the farthest South hedgehog of the Free French so that I could assault that position from the North. After taking the southernmost position I found it useful to clear an exit from the minefield so I could move my forces Eastwards more quickly.
There is room (barely) for your armor to sweep around the southern flank.
Follow Rommel's advice, Klotzen, nicht Kleckern and the Allied armor is defeated piecemeal with overwhelming force as you move North. Since we Are in North Afrika, Guderian is far away, although his advice is well worth taking.

If Italy had invested mo' effort in training their woeful infantry....and how could they build such great warships...planes...and what was probably the finest on-time railroad system anywhere...then bolt together some tin cans and can 'em "tanks"...?...good grief!

I've just been reading through this thread while making/eating dinner, and I think needs some rumour control. :)

There seem to be two major elements of confusion: the Supply Dumps & the Hangars.


Supply Dumps

To be clear, these have nothing to do with the Hangars. The Supply Dumps are put on the map if the player moves enough units into the hexes marked 'A'. Destroying these Supply Dumps, which are located roughly in the South-East corner ('behind the Wire'), is one of the triggers for a DV.

Their locations when they are triggered to appear are (31,22), (35,24) and (32,30). If they do not appear, three other structures named 'Supply Dump' (let's call them backups) will appear off-map in the extreme Southeast, they can be seen on the small strategic map if you turn 'fog of war' off. The scenario allows a DV only if three structures called 'Supply Dump' are not on the map at the end of the scenario. Since you cannot destroy the three off-map backup Supply Dumps, they will remain on the map until the end, ruining the chance for a DV.

So to get a DV, you have to get 4 units onto the hexes marked 'A' before turn 6 in order to get the Supply Dumps to spawn. Than, you have to destroy them.


Hangars

So what is going on with those hangars? Well, they will start appearing in the desert in the South-West after a couple of turns. Four in total, and destroying them will give the player some extra units, which will spawn Northwest of Tobruk. They spawn at slightly randomized times and locations, but not by more than a few hexes or turns.

Go look for them around hexes (12,25) (9,29) (19,27), the southernmost one (called Hangar No4) always spawns at (15,31).


Destroying the three northern Hangars (called Hangar No1, Hangar No2 and Hangar No3) will spawn a SE Panzer IIIJ (1,3) and a SE Bf 109F (2,3).

If you also manage to destroy the fourth hangar (No4, the one that spawns at (15,31)) you will receive a StuG IIIB that will spawn at (1,2).

Personally, I always go for the Hangars and mostly ignore the Supply Dumps, because it doesn't really matter if you win a DV or an MV; both give 500 prestige and the next scenario is always Second Offensive. Those extra units are worth quite a bit when sold and the SE units give a nice boost to the core. And while trying to quickly fight my way to the 'A' hexes I will lose more strength than if I ignore them and focus on the Allied units.

The last time I experimented a bit and sent a Panzer II Flamm after the Hangars, it has poor hard attack but the attack bonus it has versus structures is useful here and it can move quickly through the desert.

Great info on Dash to the Wire - I am about to start the scenario for the first time & didn't have a Scooby doo what is going on other than noticing the mysterious 'A''s on the map. Really enjoying Afrika Corps so far although I can be in far better shape for some scenario's with a good MV rather then a last dash DV i.e, Brevity.

How do you find the hex numbers locations (12,25) (9,29) etc. when in the game? Is it an option that can be turned on or do you just count from the top left corner for the first one and then down for the second?

On the sidebar, underneath the 9 buttons (resupply, flak switch etc.), there is a section of text, that will have the terrain or a city name displayed showing what thex you are currently hovering the mouse over.

Countryside (10,23)

The last bit of that tells you what hex it is.
