I'm glad it worked for both of you 
I understand it's not as easy as performing an auto-update. The reason why we decided to go this route during the rest of December is that Slitherine's offices will be closed during the Christmas period and I wanted to continue delivering patches every Friday during the rest of the month. Also, since the patches that are released through the auto-updater tool are comprehensive, it would mean that you would have got another 1.25+ GB file to download with lots of unnecessary information.
I'll see if I can post a visual guide on how to upgrade the game during the weekend.
