I'm on Window's 7. Yeah, that could be it. I'm not sure. I would uninstall and then reinstall whichever you like 1.1.2 or Beta. Then just copy the World folder and keep it in a safe place. Then do whatever you like. If it still doesn't work you always have the original files as backup.

It should work though. Just changing a value shouldn't make it crash no matter if it's in the data or user. I've done it in data and did not have a crash. The user files are really just to keep your mods from being overwritten when there's an update. I would just start fresh and see if that doesn't fix things for you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Ok, I reinstalled 1.1.2, copied paste the data/ folder in user and modified a simple value (moved colonial infantry strenght to 3) and the game crashed while loading units (at 97%)

Any Mac user out there who actually managed to mod their game? Other than a platform issue I can't see why it won't work.
