3) Battle of Girba - beta 2

Level: Colonel
Prestige Begin: 2096 After Strength Inc/Purchases: 1526 Ending: 1526
Results: Triumph 10/18

Inc Strength for:
Inf from 9 to 10 (-0)
Vickers 3 to 10 Elite (-40)
Cruiser Tank 9 to 10 Elite (-12) then OS 10 to 11 (-24)
B Sqd Recon 9 to 10 (-0)
A Sqd Recon 6 to 10 Elite (-24)

Purchased:
Cruiser MK.I (-248)
AT QF 2 Pounder w/Bren Carrier (-222)

Comments:
Moved up Left and Right Flanks with Recons in front to cover the map for scouting. Tanks moved up to encounter incoming tanks. Two Ital tanks attempted to flank but were destroyed by AT, Artillery and Vickers. Got message to push up road at 5/18. Encountered Artillery and Inf. Flanked art with tanks to destroy. Inf handled by artillery, inf, and recons. Enjoyed but no prestige rewards for Triumph? Did start scenario 4 with +400pp.

I failed to save a replay. I had looked at battlefied and then was unable to get back to the save replay option. Am I missing something?

Played the scenario again in Beta 2. The amount of deployment hexes now fits the amount of deployable units.

Girba beta 2
Ending prestige 1427
DV 11/18

This battle went much easier this time! I didn't run into the impenatrable wall of artillery that I did the first time, now I can understand how everyone else found this scenario easy.

Beta2 - Colonel - DV at turn 7

Like the first time it was easy to win this scenario. Good for a tutorial because the advantage of recon units is shown.
- The city-hex 7,24 has no name but I think it will be named in later versions.
- I got a lot of prestige at the beginning and the end of the scenario (start: 2041, end: 1340), maybe it should be reduced a little bit, but I'm not sure

The scenario seems to be finished and the prestige rewards function properly. 8)

Battle of Girba
Colonel Level
Starting Prestige: 1963

Upgrades: upgraded infantry to Bren Carrier.
Purchases: motorized 25 pounder, Infantry + Bren Carrier, Cruiser Mk 1.

Triumph, 7/18
End prestige: 801

The Italian tankettes are hilariously easy to kill - even Bren carriers give them a run for their money.

I didn't realize on my first playthrough on Lieutenant that 25 pounders double as AT guns - getting them to the enemy can be difficult, but oh man is it nice to let loose with those improvised AT guns. BOOM no more tankette.

As stated before - the italians do not react all to much. Most of them just seem to be waiting for their destruction. I guess, having this one a little bit more difficult could help. Why do just their tanks move? Infantry does not move at all, even when being able to attack an undefended artillery. This is not the lesson, new Players should be learning ..

What i do like: just as in Border Raids, the importance of recon units is obvious.

Best Regards
Tom

I destroyed the enemy by turn 13. Colonel difficulty level. Bought a Cruiser 1 and 25 pounder. I just charged head first into them. This scenario does a great job of showing the usefulness of recon units. No issues noted.

My second run through this scenario. No issues on this play through. Seems ready for release.

Battle of Girba - RC1

Level: General
Prestige Begin: 2054 At Deployment: 1341 Ending: 1341 Victory Bonus: +400
Results: Triumph 11/18

Purchased: Cruiser MK.I and QF 25 Pounder w/Bren Carrier

Comments:
Moved up Left and Right Flanks with Recons to cover the map for scouting. Moved artillery backed forces up both sides of road to encounter and destroy light tanks and infantry. When encountered artillery backed forces, attempted to flank and destroy artillery first.

There is confusion at start about what objectives to defend. At start I moved my units back to the white flags, then got a nasty message that I would be relieved if I didn't obey orders. I suggest this be explained at outset to defend the British flagged objectives THEN WAIT till you are told to move to the now highlighted white flagged objectives in rear. Maybe have them flash or something.
Nothing wrong with a tool tip to a new commander to construct "combat teams" of infantry on fortifications with armor/recon on clear adjacent hex and artillery backing up the two. certainly infantry and recon being weaker could use the defensive artillery backup. Two artillery units do nicely in this scenario. Two air units are necessary to knock down Italian air, then give tool tip to use the fighters as ground attack on Italian armor. Prestige can be earned by surrounding and forcing a trapped enemy unit to surrender. Interesting the "trick" of counterattacking lost objectives and earning the extra prestige then quickly getting out of there in retreat.
