I've got spare armies as well if anyone wants to borrow just let us know
cheers

Now it seems everyones eyes are turning to Britcon, what to bring
Top 10 choices but not in order are
Tatar
Later Louis XIV French (and yes it is different from anybody elses)
Dagestan
Later Imperial Austrian
Later Imperial Spanish
Early Danish
Qing
Later TYW German
Hugenot
Rajput
now which one to bring, have played with all and enjoyed all, most extreme is Later Louis XIV French, possibly the most enjoyable as well but have only played it once whereas all the rest I have played in a competition, but with the ability to drop a score might work
just my thoughts so far
cheers

Thanks Alasdair!
Im overwhelmed by how friendly you guys are, i will almost feel bad when i beet you using my foolproof strategy of "beginners luck" back up by my secondary tactics of "good dice"
Seriously thow, im really looking forward to meeting you at Britcon, it will be great fun! Im already recruiting a friend for the doubles in September.
Army wise im choosing between later 30yw French and well....Swedish........ but i think a fairly straight forward and balanced army will prove the best learning experience. Im thinking a strong inf center in two waves (or "träffen" if there Swedes ) complemented by one weak (horse, carabiner) and one strong cav wing (curassiers or cavaliers)

Tis a good plan but I think you'll run out of points before you can do all that , but worth a try, but you'll have to use French you won't get near enough troops in the Swedish to do that, just my opinion and to be honest I don't much about foot

Cant deny you have a point Alasdair, however i count i run out of points. The only way to get it to work is to go with the French and cut back on everything except the basics. Not quite sure on what to do about the arty thow. From a strictly mathematical pint of view they don't seam worth the points but i have a feeling there might be more to it then that. I mean lots of art might force the opponent to attack.
Is there any stats available on witch armys ppl bring

Search the Tournament forum for Britcon 2012 or Britcon Results to see what people brought last year and how well it worked.

Just 3 tickets left for FoGR at Britcon - could FoGR be the first period to sell out?

Down to last 4 now and Louis XIV still in their, not totally convinced but might be fun, Rajputs gone, couldn't work out how to beat TYW armies with it (incompetence I know) and Later Imperial Austrian as I used it last year
cheers

If Don 'The Don' Avis decides to turn up and gets a good result, while Alasdair repeats his less than stellar result from 2012, The Don could top the BHGS Rankings and for the second year in a row deny Alasdair the honour of sweeping the board.

Well, I'm definitely turning up, I'm playing to win (unlike Roll Call - no Scots this time). However my money's still on Alasdair (if I'm allowed to bet that is!

Sack him, thats what I say,
he's only going to rule my list illegal (You mean Later Imperial Spanish can't have dagestan allies) then turn up with his Anglo-Dutch and beat me like last year
cheers

Alasdair, in those circumstances, I thought you would be delighted that RBS has not entered as yet unless of course you regard revenge as best served up very cold. Anyway I am sure our paths will cross somewhere over the Britcon weekend although no Sudanese from me this year unless they can have Anglo Dutch allies.

Got my own back at Godendag and Rollcall, but he's getting very good with his Anglo-Dutch and I need to beat it, I still can't make up my mind, I had 10 am now down to 4 choices and as ever it would be good to play you as I am sure I will at Britcon, always excellent games and you had a well deserved win last year, well done and see you there, I'm getting the impression lots of late armies but we'll see
cheers

Our situations sound similar as I am also down to four possibles with 3 sensible armies and one off the wall choice. I will have to make up my mind soon.

Yes its the ability to drop one score that makes the off the wall army interesting, in which case my silly Louis XIV French with 5 dragoons, 5 superior / elite determined horse / horse, 2 heavy guns and 2 foot, still not sure about unarmoured determined horse though
cheers

Update :
We currently have only 2 places left in FoG:R. At this stage we don't forsee being able to increase the allocation, so if you are waiting to book for some reason, you'd better hurry !
Also if you wish to book accommodation via the University site please do so fairly soon, as they have other events on and are starting to run a little short on rooms.
http://britcon2013.eventbrite.co.uk to book into the competition
