As an aside, 13 years earlier the Northumbrians had launched a pre-emptive strike against a massing Pictish army and annihilated it so thoroughly that the dead filled two rivers (possibly the Avon and the Carron, near Grangemouth). The Picts had learned the hard way that an ambush was the only sure-fire way against these invaders.

That function has never worked. Why? - There are several things that do not work in this game, they were simply left unfinished. Hopefully this will change with the new version.
The decoy unit could also be changed to be light infantry ...
Yes, that would make it more flexible and better protected against the skirmishers.
