SU-122 v Brumbar for sure!!! This is so exciting I can't wait for the eastern front. If you have a chance you might want to check out the Axis and Allies miniatures sets - they have really great units which I've enjoyed gaming with. Looking forward to taking this action to the PC!

You (Slitherine) have probably already thought about this, but if you reflect the units that are commonly used in popular Eastern Front games such as 'Flames of War' and 'Squad Leader' then you could cross-market into an established fan base.

Something to think about?

I know its something that the guys have look at in the past. We're always looking for these kinds of synergies, although IIRC some boardgame players tend to hold concerns that they might be providing aid to the enemy :)

Merging units should be fun! Also I'd like to see more tank destroyers like the Nashorn and Jagdtiger as well as Soviet giants like the SU-152 and T-35/85. Perhaps the German MAUS and IS-3 :D

Is there a chance of special elite units like mountain troops and ski troops? That would be really cool :D said troops should have advantages like Mountains get +4 Movement and + 1 Range in rough terrain (not buildings or anything other than rough? Hilly tiles). Same goes for ski troops. SMG Troops get +1 Range in Urban environments, and elite units (Waffen SS/Guards Infantry) get +1 Range anywhere.

There should also be mud and heavy snow as new tiles to simulate rough Russian Weather (General Winter)

I've made quite a list if new Russian units, but it will divide it up by unit type. First, infantry:

-Soviet Riflemen: Basic infantry unit. Carries rifles and 2x AT charges, normal morale/stats.
-Soviet Scouts: Scout unit. Carries rifles and 2x AT charges, normal morale/stats.
-Soviet Assault Troops: Engineer unit. Carries SMGs, 4x AT charges, and has ability to clear mines. Normal morale/stats.
-Soviet DP-28 Team: LMG unit.
-Soviet Maxim MG Team: HMG unit, must be transported.
-Soviet PTRD Team: Infantry AT unit, equipped with anti-tank rifle.
-Soviet Mortar: Mortar unit.
-45mm AT Gun: Light ATG, must be transported.
-76.2mm Cannon: Dual-Purpose gun. Can bombard targets or fire directly, like 25lb. gun.
-Soviet Sniper: Similar movement abilities to the British auxiliary commandoes, can fire a single sniper shot per every turn it doesn't move.
-Soviet Guards Infantry: Elite troops, increased morale and 3x AT charges. Able to ride certain tanks, benefitting from increased mobility and giving the tank a greatly enhanced Overrun attack at the cost of being mowed down when the tank comes under fire.
-Soviet Conscripts/Penal Battalions: Low cost, low morale "horde" troops with no AT charges.
-Other possibilities:
-NKVD Troops
-Ski Troops
-Partisans/Civilian Militia
-Tank Hunter Teams

Next, armor and heavy SPGs/TDs:

-T-26: 1933 Model only, single turret with light gun and limited armor.
-BT-7: Extremely fast with limited armor and armament.
-T-70: Lightly armored, fast recon tank. Capable of amphibious movement.
-T-34: Well-rounded medium tank. Capable of carrying tank riders.
-T-34/85: Up-gunned T-34. Also capable of carrying tank riders.
-KV-1: Slow, heavily armored tank. Very poor reliability but heavy armament.
-KV-1S: Faster, cheaper model of the KV-1 with reduced stats.
-KV-2: Heavily armored, dual purpose gun platform. Can bombard targets or fire directly. Requires a turn to load gun prior to firing, and suffers from speed/reliability issues.
-T-28: Rare medium tank seen in Barbarossa scenarios. Very poor reliability and speed, and is outmatched by most German medium armor.
-IS-2: Heavy, late-war assault tank. Very good armor, weaponry, and reliability but very high cost. Capable of surviving hits from 88mm guns and carrying tank riders.
-SU-85: Medium tank destroyer based off T-34 chassis. Has good armor, low profile, and powerful armament but suffers from lack of a turret.
-SU-122: Medium assault gun/howitzer based off T-34 chassis. Can bombard targets or fire upon them directly. Less capable against armor than SU-85 but more potent against infantry and soft targets.
-SU-152: Heavy assault gun based off KV-1 chassis. Very powerful direct fire capability against infantry and armor, and is capable of knocking out most German armor from long range.

And finally, other vehicles. Hope this helped.

-SU-76: Light tank destroyer based off T-70 chassis. Fast and reliable, but lightly armored. Capable of taking out most German light and medium armor.
-ZSU-37: Primary Soviet AA weapon. Lightly armored chassis with a gun capable of taking on infantry and light armor at close range, along with aircraft.
-BA-64: Soviet light armored car, armed with a machine gun.
-BA-10: Soviet heavy armored car. Slower than BA-64 but better suited for combat.
-NKL-26: Soviet aerosan APC, armed with a machine gun and capable of carrying infantry units and support weapons across snowy terrain.
-ZIS-6: Primary Soviet soft-skinned transport vehicle.
-ZIS-6 Kayatusha: Soviet rocket launcher, requires two turns to reload before firing.
-ZIS-6 MG: Truck fitted with several Maxim MMGs, lethal against infantry and capable of AA fire.
-Other possibilities:
-Horses
-Lend-Lease Vehicles
-Captured German Vehicles

I'd love smoke, leaders and Finns. What a little solo campaign against the Russian bear that would be - thinking ASL here. :D
