Can we clarify the shooting arc please ?
As you can see in my other thread on FF , is it 180 degrees ( I guess measured from the center of the back side ) or is it on the 3 "active" facings ( front, left side and right side ) ?
If it's the latter , can you approach the FF at 45 degress and be in its dead zone ?

I would think you could shoot from any point on the 3 sides, like a building. But I suppose we can wait for a Terry clarification/explanation.

OK , so you could approach it on its corner ( ie 45 degrees ) and be out of arc from front and side ?

I see what you mean. You want to draw a line through the back corners and are saying you can shoot anywhere above (to the front) of that line but not behind it. I get you. That would seem right considering what Terry posted before.

Further question re shooting . Do I need to draw from 2 points to shoot at full effect ? If so , what points ?

Not sure I understand the question. If I can draw a line from some point on the FF/building to enemy, I can shoot.

I think I understand the question, you are referring to friends or terrain partly blocking your target, which would normally reduce dice. Educated guess is that in this case you use the artillery bases to determine if your blocked, and still measure from edge of FF model for range.

But if FF work like buildings, there is none of that. You simply draw a line to enemy and shoot. There is no "if centre can't draw to enemy" or "if one corner can't draw to enemy."

If it's like a building then it does not affect shooting. That part was simple. Unlike buildings though you get your normal dice for range instead of 4 dice.

Thanks , so no minimum sized gap required ? Despite my troops blocking part of it , if I can see the target all guns bear ? Yikes

So, at what point would the 2nd bullet, left hand column, page 36 apply given any of the above ??? This bullet clearly implies that artillery shoot should out of FF just like they normally would if not in FF. (And bear in mind it was modified by the latest amendments but ONLY to remove the last sentence of the bullet leaving the first part untouched - and, thus, to my mind, reinforcing the point that artillery wouldn't shoot all-round notwithstanding any of the above thread !)

You would still be restricted to the minimum size gap able to shoot through: 1 base width.

no clue!...Terry clarification (probably in his reworked buildings FAQ) needed. It seems a contradiction.

I've never run into them in a game, yet (although Dead. is probably twitching to use them with his blossoming Russian corps). They sound like they put out a ridiculous amount of firepower in a multitude of directions. I wish Terry would appear and clarify how they are intended to work. (Although it seems the authors of FoG have not been commenting on rules and such lately here or FoGAM (not sure about FoGR)). Maybe as a group we could decide?
I don't have much background knowledge of their use on the battlefield to be able to comment on the field of fire and amount of firepower. I know Borodino, but that was predominately a frontal assault on it, was it not?
Should they have 180 field of fire? Should fire out the sides be reduced/restricted? What were play-test discussions about them, if any?

There were no playtesting discussions about fortifications. For the good reason in that they had not been written.

Doesn't sound like they appear too often. Will just have to see what happens when Dead. runs them I guess. See if they can be avoided.
