We're creeping up towards 16 entrants now and we have a few medieval armies which is good. I know that a lot of players do not read the forum, or at least do not read it regularly, so please invite anyone like that who you may be playing in a friendly game.

Hi y'all

This is just a thought.

If there are going to be 16 of us there will be a max of 4 games for 2 players.

However what if we can all play 4 games?

You play your first game you lose by a single bp, bummer or what? That's it for you time to go.

However what if a player who lost his first game could still have a chance of winning?

It is very straightforward. You have a Swiss System. The first time to my knowledge that one has been incorporated in FOG-DIgital. In TT comps I have played. I have lost my first game in some comps but ended up being 3rd, 2nd and 1st at the end of it.

Very simply those players with the same % casualties inflicted will play one another in the next round or as close as. Their % casualties are totalled up for each round.

For example

Round 1 Player A 100% vs B 75%

Round 2 Player B (75%) 100% vs Player G (73%) 83%

Round 3 Player B (175%) 100% vs Player D (180%) 53%

Round 4 Player B (275%) 100% vs Player J (269%) 93%

Even players who may have lost 3 games very narrowly have a chance of winning or becoming 2nd or 3rd so the last and final round (Round 4) would be very exciting. You could have 3 or 4 players vying for 1st position.

Cheers

Eric

Hello Eric,

I think that your idea of using the Swiss system is a very good one - but I feel that it warrants a separate competition of its own at some stage. I would certainly be very interested to see how it all works out and I would be prepared to help with the organisation of such a tournament. If it has worked in TT competition then I see no reason why it would not work for FOG digital too.

However, the idea for this knock-out competition was to have a short, sharp, breezy competition in the New Year just to get everyone back in the swing of things again. A lot of players have just about finished their LOEG matches so there is a bit of a "window" now for another tournament or two before the next season of LOEG starts up. At 350pts the games should be completed quite quickly too.

Last thing, I didn't mean to imply that there would only be 16 players in my tournament, only that 16 would be the minimum number I would need to make it viable. Hopefully, we will get 30+ players entering by next Saturday. Once we get past 16 entrants I can work with any number of players - say, for example, that we get 29 entrants, then the first round will consist of 13 matches (26 players) and 3 players will get byes into the second round. The 13 winners plus 3 byes will play in the second round and then we reduce the number of survivors 8-4-2-1 as is usual in knock-out competitions.

Right - we have got the minimum number required of 16 so the competition will definitely be going ahead. I will post the first round draw on here on Sunday morning, January 15th. You can still join the competition - the more the merrier!
