Since the errata still don't include the proposed correction of the keil rule will I be allowed to reprise the performance of the dodgy Swiss concertina marching band?

Dave

Concertina Scots whatever next

look forward to seeing it on the table

OK, you forced my hand, new version of errata sheet coming up pronto (BEFORE next weekend), using your own proposed fix.
“Any non-tercio battle group that is capable of adopting keil formation (and not forbidden by its army list companion book from doing so) must do so at all times unless it is in, or forming, square. If as a result of base losses it ceases to be a keil, but still has at least eight heavy foot or determined foot bases, it must attempt to reform as a keil as soon as it is able. If it started the battle able to adopt keil formation, but as a result of base losses now has fewer than eight heavy foot or determined foot bases, the only formation changes permitted are to form or leave square, or reduce or expand frontage so that the heavy foot or determined foot are no more than one or two bases wide.”
We'll have no jiggery-pikery at Badcon!

Another cunning plan scotched by perfidious sassenachs!

BTW, thought the r+r would be up by the noo*. Any chance of seeing 'em soon?

Dave

as is stands, there may be a few more when all the scratch/local teams have shaken out.

Important note
Car parking is still free at the town hall. However, the council have installed a pay and display system. There are parking permite available. The plan is to have a lackey on the gate entrance to the car park handing them out. However, if for any reason you don't get permit please make sure you ask for one when you check in.

This system was only put in place last week , and there is the potential for the local wardens to go into overdrive. Certainly council officials got caught out on the first day

Stretching it a bit to call this an errata, though I agree with the principle that pike would form up deep. Might be an issue with the mandatory nature of this perhaps. i.e. if my pike are close to enemy shooters and lose a base making me no longer a Keil can I charge in the impact phase or do I have to sit there so I can do a formation change in the Movement phase?

It's an omission from the published rules, hence an Erratum. I am not claiming it is a clarification. Anyway, why get hung up on semantics? It's official, that's what matters.

If you come up with a better wording it can go in errata V1.09.

(Apart from the natural wargamer's tendency to argue about everything, however pointless, even if it means a game timing out instead of victory.)

Call it whatever you like. It's official, which is what matters.

And if you think this is a dubious method of correcting the rules, you clearly have never taken part in Official MagicTheGathering tournaments.

Unfortunatley - its not he broad church that Usk was... I think people are catching on, or are a bit keen to win! :(

I suspect if you want a broader range of armies turning up in this period its not musket armed troops that should be prohibited, its impact pistol mounted.

It might be sufficient to say "troops capable of Kiel formation must deploy in that formation and cannot make any voluntary move to change formation from Kiel formation to a non-Kiel formation".

That way a Kiel that gets battered down to 3 deep on the way in doesn't have to stop and reform if they were, say, in 3MU of undefended artillery.

I'd just like to say that the event was very good. Excellently run and organised. We had four really good games and really enjoyed our first foray to Burton

I think you're reading more into this than is there. It doesn't say a BG must resume keil formation before it can do anything else, merely that it must attempt to do so as soon as it is able. No reason it can't declare a charge.

I was thinking Dave that it might prompt daft arguments: "you can't charge because then you'd be in close combat in the movement phase so you'd be unable to make a formation change. So you can't declare a charge" and other weaselly tosh like that

Would it be better if the adjustment was made when the base loss occurred in the same way that Early Tercios mutate into Late Tercios when they can't keep up the ET formation?
