If you just downloaded after the demo, you don`t need the patch really as that download is the 1.04 version, the DLC`s also contain the latest 1.04 version.
So just install the main game and the DLC`s and that is enough.

Why is the
zipped update 1.04 larger (311MB) than a dlc (285MB)?
Btw, I don't need the previous updates if I want to install 1.04 manually or do I?

No you don't need to.
Every update got the previous ones.
