Im having the same issue with the game crashing when a city is captured.. Plz advise if any fixes.. i purchased the game on feb 28th, 2012 fyi..

Further to this, if someone could post a savegame and instructions to repeat the crash, it would be most appreciated.

not sure what you mean by post a savegame but basically when i capture a city and press end turn or hover my mouse over that new city the game crashes and closes.. As long as i dont capture a city and play with the default cities given at the start the game runs fine. Its really only when a new city is captured.

I bought this game a few days ago. I run Vista home. I'm having problems with crashing when I capture cities as well. I don't think it's a problem with new video drivers, as I have a laptop with a crappy built-in graphics card.

Had the same issue on WinXP Prof SP3 with relatively recent ATI drivers. Patch seems to have fixed it for me as well.

Btw., the patch in the download section should be updated. And the fix should be updated as well, because it still says "1.15" ingame instead of "1.21". And maybe the download should include the fixed exe, too?!

Good point - I will try and at least get the hotfix listed under the CoW downloads.

I have the same issue, after I conquer the city and take the cursor off it crashes. I run windows 7. I downloaded the patch but it says mss32.dll is missing. Please help.

I am having the same problem, I just downloaded the game and cant even conquer a city. I have windows 8. anyone there?

Hi. I have many of the same problems of the ones above. have installed the 1.21 patch but it dosent seem to work. I have Windows 8 and it crashes when I try to move the units around.

Open the game installation folder and find a subfolder named data. Openb that folder and rename subfolder named Sounds as _Sounds. Run the game and check if the issue persists.

When you unzipped the hotfix file, have you copied it to the game main folder?

The hotfix fixes a bug which would occur when moving the cursor over a city. Are you seeing the crash happening at this point?

I have some issue with russian version of the game. Game will crash when i send diplomats to countries with brackets in country name, such as "Египтяне (Нижн. Египет)". Can i fix it or change country names?

I'm actually experiencing the same problem as Ivantheterrible: after having noticed that the game crushes after I conquer a city, I downloaded the 1.2.1 patch. However, when I try to run its .exe it says that mss32dll is missing.

have you tried reload the prerequisite files from the game directory again

eg DirectX runtime etc etc?
