It would of course be possible to fit a tank into the game's balance. It would however not really fit with the "skirmish level combat" that we aim for. We do not want full war confrontations. So so not expect tanks in the first version of TA. And also, tanks would add a rock-paper-scissor element to the game in the forces (or more like tank-bullet-AT) which we do not want to have. We want a player to be able to play whatever kind of force he or she wishes, without having to worry about having the right counter-measures for tanks. Of course we already have this at some level, since players SHOULD think about how to handle snipers, stealth, pinning etc. But players can still play around these things if making the right decisions in the match. Fighting a tank without AT measures however is quite hard, no matter how good tactical choices one make...
In the future however, if we make a sequel, as I mentioned in some other topic, we might go for larger combats. This should then include tanks, air strikes and all that stuff. OR we could go for a more RPG-like approach with characters and individual soldier progression etc, like many of the classic turn-based games do. Time will tell

Interesting with tanks will not make it in to the first version. The node system that the unit movement is based on is to slim and the tank would move into buildings and stuff. We would love to do tanks. But we will not do them if we don't do them right.

A tank is going to be able to attack multiple targets and create a number of issues. I would rather see the time spent on allowing house to house combat to the addition of a tank.

Stick with house to house and other detailed abilities with the troops.
If people are desperate to play with tanks, let them go play a tank based game. It's not like there are any shortages.

Very good point.
Especially after playing the beta for quite a while now, house to house would be way above tanks in my book as well. I don’t recall what I might have said above in this post – but this is my opinion at this point.
Also – although I don’t think I can say much in the open forum until this is released in 11 days though – there might be more that could be said about house to house. At least I have a few ideas floating around in my head.

"released in 11 days"
Hmm that is an interesting remark
Won't hold you to it, but, it does tend to make me suddenly reluctant to use my current paypal stash on anything unnecessary for a bit

No idea on the Paypal thing – I suppose it will be able to be used
… and I think I’m gonna hold Laxen to it. . . . . Obviously just kidding there.
But so looking forward to this release!

I am looking forward to it as it should bring more multi-player opportunities!

We're just trying to nail down a multiplayer issue before we make the GM....

Thinking maybe my paypal comment was vague, meant to say, just to be clear, that I have elected to keep my current funds accessible should the game go on sale, as I'd hate to not have the funds when it does go on sale.

I'd pick the JA RPG style over Armor style anytime. Same goes for house to house (over tanks), but that just continues on the JA trend. We have enough regular battle sims out there, and only a basic 3D remake of the original JA2. Which wasn't that great, although the idea and tech were quite good.
As a sidestep from this idea: what about making tanks "usable", by letting one solder climb in it to mount the top fitted MG? It could give a good accuracy boost, but expose the gunner, and force the rest of the squad to stick in the vicinity.

Thanks for telling us what you prefer! Help us a lot for the future development of Team Assault and other areas within the genre
And yes. Some kind of mountable, stationary defences in various forums would be very fun. Like set up HMG nests, tank turrets, entrenched mortars etc.
