Though it probably needs clarification. (And the clarification might turn out to be that the shift is done at the end).
I have to say that for simplicity I'd say 'any time in the move', which is in keeping with 'doing a 90degree turn before or after'.
All those sorts of manouvers I've always seen (and not had a problem with) happening at any time in the move, and if they manage to keep out of the 6" well that's just fine.
I personally feel that it would add a level of complexity not neccessary to repair by making it happen at a specific time.

In the hope of putting this thread to rest - most of it was written during the beta phase before publication so is now irrelevant.
The rules do not impose any restriction on when during a move a shift can be done. Therefore it can be done at any stage in the move.
QED.
May I suggest that people (you know who you are) refrain from resurrecting 2 year old beta phase threads - it just causes confusion.

so with the final book released and something I can't find,
WHEN DOES THE SHIFT OCCUR????
START, MIDDLE, OR END OF THE MOVE????

You can't find it becuase you can do it anytime in the move - therefore no need to say

Sorry Richard,
But inspite of me knowing the rule, my worthy opponent disagreed....
In the future I'll not do a thread-retread, but will post a new topic.
We just so happened to be playing at the time with access to the CPU.
