Ok, ran a 10-strength 3-star unit round, same targets.

10.5 or 17 still seem the best choices.
Only missing now a comparison between 10 Regular, 10 Veteran and 13 Veteran to see effect of experience and overstrength.

The effect of experience and overstrength.

15, 17 and 21 really like to be overstrength.
7.5 really likes experience.

Doing a Rommel run on the GCs, the prestige expended on the latter ART units is ridiculous:
7.5 - 132P
10.5 - 192P
15 - 271P
17 - 310P
21 - 383P
Is the 21 worth double than the 10.5?

PS:
Well, considering we are talking about Prestige, not currency, maybe.
Its more prestigious to have batteries of 17 than batteries of 10.5.
:P

Wouldn't it be useful to see the rate of fire stats ingame? Because they are definitely
influencing the performance of units. Before i read this thread i never thought about a hidden stat
that reduces the effectiveness of HA and SA in some way.
It would also be very useful for players that are not reading this forum to see that there
is something called rate of fire that affects the performance of units.

Edit: Okay, seems like it is not that important for most of the forum readers ^^

Yes, yes it would.

Personally I cant stand the RoF stat. It feels like a cop-out to me. Esp when it's hidden the way it is now.

The vast majority of units don't have a ROF modifier. Those that do are almost all artillery, with the exception of some SP AT, like some StuGs. For the overwhelming majority of combat situations the ROF is irrelevant.

And some AA units.

Very interesting so it looks like the 170mm is the best. My only question is how did you run your test? How many times did you have the unit shoot at the other unit?

Based on predictions only.

How do you see suppression in the predictions?

You do that advanced prediction screen trick and it shows you everything. Forgot the command but it brings up a screen for you that breaks it all down.

Has anyone reported the ROF stats for the Russian artillery? This would be useful to know for multiplayer.

11 for 76,2 and SU-76.
9 for 152 and ISU-152.
All other 10.

Interesting to compare german 15cm to soviet 152.

This is a very interesting read, it would be great if someone repeated the tests using the "dice" cheat to eliminate the random factor.

I have started playing the Afrika Korps campaign, and looking at the detailed combat calculation for Italian 149mm arty, it seems this unit has a ROF of 90%. Since it has the same cost and stats as German 150mm, which has ROF 80%, this would seem to be a superior unit. I'm playing with auxiliary units now but am thinking of buying a couple for my core later.

One problem though is that the Italian arty can't get halftracks for organic transport, only trucks.

It is annoying that the purchase screen gives you no clue about rate of fire, the only way to see it seems to be to save your game, buy one and try it out, or dig into the game files.

I used the italian artillery. They cannot use halftracks but they served me well over the entire campaign. Their later self propelled guns are also not bad. not quite the Range of a Hummel but very good defense values, so they are more like StuGs with range 2, which is nice. They came repeatedly under attack, yet held the line and did good damage. The level bombers are good and the infantry also. I also kept the tanks because eventually they become Panthers, but you really have to use them as light tanks. Kind of like you used the German ones in the big campaign when they were still inferior. If you do that and don't try to hold a line against superior forces with them, they will serve you well against infantry and such.

So, if I read all this correctly (and my limited experience from finishing the PzC campaign twice):

Bigger guns will kill more but supress less.
Smaller guns will kill less but supress more.

I had Gustav doing flat 3 kills on a super-heavy entrenched (entrenchment 9) 5-star 15-str US Secret Service, but zero supression.

The exception being the Werfers I guess, since these are insane vs. Infantry.

Generally yes but there is a turn over point where the attack value of the smaller guns just don't cut it anymore vs the defenders defensive value and they fail to inflict suppression as well. It's not really noticeable against infantry as it's defensive values remain quite low through the whole war but against tanks it becomes really noticeable: for example shooting with the 7.5cm artillery at a IS tank is nothing but a waste of ammo (unless of course you want to reduce the IS' entrenchment level).
