OK Keith. If someone else wants to go ahead and accept these two challenges right away, that's fine. If there is no-one else interested then either myself or one of Morbio, batesmotel and ferb will play the games with you. I'll get you started asap, Keith.

Can I just clarify - for matches to count in the qualifying games they must be PAIRED GAMES. One-off games will not be included. The reason for this is that if one player is better than the other one then in a paired game the result between the two armies will be 1-1. On the other hand, having a better player beat a weaker player in a one-off game could distort the relative strengths/merits of the two armies somewhat.

batesmotel (Indo-Parthian) 28/44 - ferb (Numidian) 59/53
batesmotel (Numidian) 58/61 - ferb (Indo-Parthian) 43/41

Despite the split results, the Bogus Numidians definitely seem like the worse army.

Hmm, well I am being slaughtered by Morbio in both games so our series is also likely to finish 1-1. So, if Keith has got a paired game going that can count to the final tally. Chris and Morbio - would you be prepared to play each other in another paired game to see if we can separate these two armies?

I have actually lost already with the Indo-Parthians to Morbio (the other game I will also definitely lose) because my cataphracts spent the whole battle in the desert being chased by two deranged elephants! (would that happen in real life?! ) - so maybe the trick with the Indo-Parthians is not to pick so many tin cans?

I agree with Chris that the Numidians seem the worst army. Although Chris is a better player than I am, I was still able to come close in the second game.

The Indo-Parthians definitely want all the cats. The trick with the elephants is to fight them on your terms, not theirs. There are only two of them and they don't get great support. The Saka allies are almost certainly the best choice to make an effective Indo-Parthian army.

I'll be happy to play another paired match if Morbio agrees.

OK, if Morbio wants to play, please go ahead.

Regarding your comments on Suren Indo-Parthians, perhaps something like this then . . .

9x cataphracts (one is "inspired leader")
9x LH bows
6x LF javelinmen (good v elephants)
2x LF bows
1x elephant (!?)

and Saka allies

2x armoured cavalry (for extra speed, one is "field" commander)
3x LH bows
6x bows cavalry

Any good?

I'll happily play Chris, we've had a lot of close games in the past, so it'll be a good test.

I agree that the Saka allies are a must, although as Pete saw, I minimised rather than maximised on cats, I think they are far too slow to be useful against lots of agile LF and LH and against Nelly they don't do well.

Well, things seem to have ground to a halt - so decisive action is needed!! :D

I am resigning my stalled game with Morbio (I had lost it anyway) so the score between the Bogus Numidians and Suren Indo-Parthians after 2 paired matches is 2-2.

I am not sure if Keith is currently playing a paired game in this series (i.e. two battles between the same armies with the players swapping sides) - but I am going to assume that he is not (Keith, please advise asap if you are). So that should just leave the third paired game between batesmotel and Morbio underway. How are those games going gentlemen, please?

Chris seems to be playing one game and holding the other.... maybe he's waiting to see how to play the Numidians! I think it's fair to say I'm doing well with the Numidians against Chris' Parthians, but it is only turn 4 and things can turn once the non-skirmish clash begins in earnest.

This game with me playing the Parthians versus Morbio's Numidians ended in a draw. The other game is still going but looks likely to be a Parthian victory.

OK Chris, thanks. If you can just post up the result of the second game when it's done. It looks like the Bogus Numidians are going to represent ROR at NAFF 2011.

Numidians vs Parthia the NAFF result....

Numidians(Bogus) (BatesMotel) 59/59 vs 43/52 Suren Indo-Parthians (Morbio)

Numidians(Bogus) (Morbio) 62/62 vs 45/44 Suren Indo-Parthians (BatesMotel)

This would tend to suggest that the Numidians (Bogus) are the worst army... but it was close!

Thanks Morbio. So the final result was Suren Indo-Parthians 3 Bogus Numidians 2 and the Bogus ones will be representing ROR at NAFF 2011. Thanks to everyone who participated in this thrilling qualification event! Next week we can all start thinking about the candidates from Immortal Fire.
