The attacking Caledonians have managed an unexpected win over the defending Romans 30/44 vs. 33/32. It could have gone either way right up to the last turn as the Caledonian battle line was dissolving fast in protracted melee.
Thanks Peter for a great game - would you like to play the return match and I'll defend as the Romans?
Cheers,
Keyth
Next Warm Up....

As batesmotel looks to be giving my Thessalians a pasting with his Early Achaemenids, I've put up another LVOG challenge - 400 points of Free Company, 15% or less are above average. Password 'ordinary'.

it seems that the LovoG reduces to you posting challenges to other players you choose...not very exciting

I'm just throwing some challenges out there while waiting for feedback on format etc. As I posted previously, some ideas:
1. Post an invite here with the army list and points. Games are played for commentary in this thread (or a new one) and bragging rights - let's see what the underdog armies can do!
2. Everyone picks a list and plays everyone else. 1 point for a win, ½ point for a draw (open to suggestions for scoring).
3. Discuss some historical match-ups and use those as a basis for a mini-tourney as above.
4. A possible option would be to use some of the voluntary out of command ideas discussed on other threads (-1 MP when out of command unless charging for example) to encourage a more historical approach.
Other suggestions have been to have paired games and to have no more than 15% of better than average BGs. So to get the ball rolling, are people interested in a War of the Roses or HYW 'league' to start with?

there is currently another thread about the worst armies in FoG, where the papal condotta is emerging as a strong pretender to the title...now, i claim that my beloved Naples condotta is even worse than the papal...who is ready to help settle the contest through a paired game 500pts FOW and double moves on?
i'm going to post the challenges under my battlename frankpowerful, pwd frank

I'm in the middle of moving house at the moment so have very limited time - I'd certainly be up for the challenge in a few days time if the offer is still there. If not, let us know how the clash of the minnows goes!

I can't see it, Frank. The Neapolitan Condotta can choose 4x "average" pikemen and 4x "superior" heavy knights but te Papal states cannot do this. My money is on Naples.

i'm going to post a challenge, pwd as usual; but then, if you beat me when playing naples, it will confirm your opinion, if you beat me when playing the popists too, it will only show you are a better player...i'll lose anyway

Four neapolitan armies invaded the papal lands aiming to substitute the righteous st peter's cult with foolish san gennaro's idolatry...battles are raging, militia is already running, lucretia borgia is having a party

the 2 rounds with Stockwellpete are now over and both were won by Naples, though the second one could end in a draw as well:
frankpowerful (Naples) 27/39 StockwellP (Pope) 35/35
StockwellP (Naples) 35/37 frankpowerful (Pope) 40/39
so it seems that between well balanced players the Naples condotta is slightly better than the papal
