If you don't want to build an army to play using miniatures then why not play a boardgame like C&C Ancients.
Personally I wouldn't want to play against an army of counters (or bases with pictures on) unless if was specifically to try out a new army.

No offense but why does it matter what you want? I don't want to play against badly painted armies, or armies that don't use the correct models, but they are common.

I don't want to play Greeks against War of the Roses English, but this is not uncommon during tournaments. Seperate yourself from your ego my friend, your wants and desires do not constitute a game ruling.

Perhaps you can give me a page # where it says that models are required. If not perhaps you can supply one where it says properly based counters are illegal? Hell it might be in there, otherwise its legal and u can get spanked by some paper!

Hmmm tough one seeing as I myself often test armies with counters and am known for the Infamouse 20cmx8cm card squares of my Early Libyans.

That said, I cannot see a problem so long as the opponent in question agrees with the use of counters. Tournaments are a different matter, here I would insist on figures being used....I cannot substantiate it with a logical reason it just does'nt feel right without figures when playing a tourny.

Fact of the matter is that as you so rightly point out "Perhaps you can give me a page # where it says that models are required. If not perhaps you can supply one where it says properly based counters are illegal"... unless any of these are found then there is no reason why you should not be allowed to play with counters

It's the section on what you need to play FOG and includes "two opposing armies of miniature figurines, painted and mounted on bases of the same width".

I was saying that one persons opinion on the issue did to really do much for me. The same type of argument could be easilly made about proxied figures, unpainted/primed figures, or non-historical matchups that are made against counters.

You seem to not like the idea of unpainted or proxied figures, but apparently it's alright as long as they are unpainted or proxied bits of cardboard with words on them. That seems a little inconsistent. If your intent is instead the other way around - you think there is no need for any form of realistic representation, and are citing examples of badly/lazily painted figures as some sort of proof of this viewpoint, I really don't see that that follows either.

No, u are just incapable of reading. I've been painting models since I was a kid, I have painted armies, tons of figs ready to be primed and figures on order.

I am discussing a concept based upon a revelation I had while using counters for a friend who is new to the game.

Honestly counters let u know far easier in many cases what u are fighting, and while I enjoy painting and modelling it is a completely different side of the hobby that not everyone is going to do or enjoy. There are plenty of people who enjoy the strategy and tactics, but have no interest in modelling or painting.
