OK guys, hopefull this version will be the final beta. If it runs fine for you all then I will do a final build (this one will expire in a week or 2) and a proper announcement.

http://www.slitherine.com/files/SysTray ... eta003.zip

+ fixed a bug where it was re-reporting turns
+ will now save login details once you are logged in successfully

Let me know how it works for you.

Cheers

Thanks guys!

Edit: It does not seem to save my data though, any thoughts?

There should be a My Games/Slitherine/TrayTool directory in your My Docs dir where it saves the login information. Is that being created? Are you sure you're running version 0.03?

I'm going to bump this thread - if you are using the app please sound off and let me know if it's working. If it is then we can do a proper release, explain how to get it to run at startup, etc.

Overall, I like the application 8).

The biggest problem I have with this is that it often tells me it's my opponents turn within a minute of me completing my turn. It's almost as if it has detected the fact it is my turn, doesn't tell me because I'm busy doing my moves, I alt-tab out of FoG because I've finished making my moves, then it detects I'm available to talk to, so it gives me the message that it has been patiently waiting to give me for the last 20 mins - that it's now my go..... but it's not, because I've already moved!

It's only a minor annoyance because you soon get used to ignoring it, knowing you have just made the move versus that opponent. I guess it could be more annoying if you had several games on the go against an opponent, then you wouldn't know if it was telling you that the game you have just moved in is available, or another game, you'd then have to check, which defeats the object of the prompter.

Hmmm - that's a pain. Windows is probably caching the message because you are busy doing something else. I guess I could try and see whether FoG is running and not try and post messages if that is the case, although that's a little messy.

I assume this happens when you are in FoG and see that it is your turn without being prompted?

Yes, e.g. you finish a move versus an opponent and return to the 'my turn' list. You see you have a new turn to make and make it. When you have finished and there are no more moves, you alt-tab out and the prompter tells you the move you have just finished is available.

I'd still like to be able to double click (or similar) the systray icon to get it to give me a list of all the games awaiting my move - if it prompted a real-time lookup then I'd know exactly which games I have

That's a little more complex - especially going forward, as some games don't have user-readable titles for games. Having said that, I might have to just code little decoders for different games anyway. But then you run into issues of localisation (e.g. running the app on a machine without the game installed and needing to keep localised names synced etc).

I guess I could just like games by showing the opponent, but that's not ideal.

This is amazing; I'm glad you went to the trouble of actually making a little programme to do this. I'll try it out later this week and report back (already sounds like it is very popular, though!).

My app. seems to have stopped working. The icon has vanished. Happened after I did some Vista update if that can have anything to do with it.

It shouldn't. Did you have it running automatically? Perhaps it removed it from your startup? Or perhaps it is being blocked by a virus checker or Windows Defender?

What happens if you run the app directly?

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean by run directly.
I downloaded and then it just worked automatically up till now.
It seems to be removed as I can't see it any longer in the line at the bottom (don't know the word in english...taskbar?)
I found the TrayTool directory and it's empty.

So you haven't restarted your machine? I'll guess you just ran the app when you downloaded it? You'll need to download the EXE and then run it from where it downloads. We don't install the tray icon as a service so that might be where the confusion is coming from?

Well, I'm slightly confused but I think I did that the first time.
Be as it may I did it again right now and the icon is back.
Thanks for your patience

No problems. I'm just working on a clean solution for the issue when running FoG that shows old messages, and perhaps a 'current' list of waiting games. Note that the current beta will probably stop working next week sometime, but all feedback and testing is welcome!

Sorry guys - got caught up with BBC stuff and this has slipped off my radar. Haven't managed to get the fix to prevent it from showing messages after you've been running FoG, but I will try and get a version out with an extended expiration for those of you who are using it currently.

Cheers
