I'd like to either be the green (NW) faction as first choice or the yellow (NE) as a second.

Hector Paisley, Duke of Argyle.

The Duchy of Argyle has been created for Faction 1 and the map updated. Only 2 to 7 left.

I would like faction 5, I like the scenic lake thing, should make for the relaxing time spent schmoozing mit die frauleins or 6 if some other lake lover has declared for it already. I prefer southern exposure and all

Herzog Hummel of Brunchweister reporting in.

I have not downloaded the beta yet as I am not sure if I do I can continue to play other FOG games, only have the 1 PC the game works on (my wifes machine flickers so badly it hurts the eyes) so think we might have to wait for battle till official release.

Will we have a capital/seat of power/castle of depravity??

You will certainly have capitals and stuff :)

Sorry about the docx format, I'll upload a the document in .doc format this evening (and keep it that way in future).

There will be no battles until SoA is officially released and all eight of you are happy to choose an army and proceed. Before then, we will have time to peruse and discuss the rules and mechanisms that I will be using 'behind the scenes', and we can have the first stages of planning and politicking that do not relate to specific armies or battles.

I am hoping to get the initial set of rules posted tonight.

Cheers,

Keyth

I have a lot of the mechanisms designed but I'm still formatting them so that they make sense to anyone else :) More to follow soon.

Concur, looks great! Will there be naval battles? (abstractly handled of course until FOG: The Spanish Main comes out)

There will be naval battles, but they are a bit abstract. I should get the nuts-and-bolts stuff uploaded tomorrow - it's all in spreadsheets and scribbled on bits of paper at the moment :)

In short, the more you improve your ports, the better your fleets will be, both in terms of movement and combat. When two fleets collide, I will roll 1d6 adjusted by Seamanship and a few other things, and let you know what happens. As I said, the tables for this should be uploaded tomorrow. You might win a glorious victory, flee ignominiously with losses or get wiped off the face of the ocean :)

While I'm babbling (it's past bedtime I tell you), sieges are handled using attacker to defender ratios, adjusted by factors such as Siegecraft, season and stuff like that. Once the walls come down, it's either a surrender or a pitched battle.

In general, fighting in winter is a bad thing for all involved.

Oh, and there are storms at sea... you have been warned! :)

Keyth

I'm assuming that this isn't going to officially roll until SoA is released? Am I wrong?

You're not wrong - just getting everything in place ready for release. Once the full rules are up, I'm more than happy to change them around if we think they need it. We'll 'go live' once everyone is happy with SoA and has selected a base army to use.
