Yes it will be compatible with the Matrix version. I assume Matrix will have a version out a few weeks after us.

Random battle generator and LOS rules - now you're talking. Placing pre-order now.

It's not fair! You are going to turn us all into addicts! We are going to have to buy every expansion. It's not fair!
Pre-order placed.

By total price I mean the total price for all expansions. This just covers one of 10 FOG TT books - multiply 15 pounds by 10 FOG books worth of expansions and that's 150 sterling, 170 including the initial game.

I hear what you are saying but, as long as the content continues to improve and that our money is used to continue developing/patching the game, £10-£15 every couple of months isn't too bad considering that multiplayer is free (some would charge a subscription I guess).
Worth being wary of and keeping an eye on though.

What you buy is entirely up to you - you wont be forced to buy anything to keep pace. You have to understand the cost of making computer games is extremely high so if you want them to continue we need to generate the revenue somehow!
The method we use means we have to keep the standard high as you aren't going to buy a pack if it doesn't appeal. Also, we're letting anyone who picks up the game early or pre-orers pays less than those coming late to the party so we're rewarding the hard core as much as we can rather than punishing them and lowering the price a few months after initial release which is the norm to squeeze the most out of your most loyal fans. There will always be peopel who want somethign for nothing but the reality is, if you want the games to continue we have to generate the revenue to do it somehow!
A subscription model for multiplayer is an alternativer solution but I think people like to control what they spend and only get charged for what they use. We'd be interested to hear your thoughts though.

Free forever is obviously the way forward

If you have to adopt a 'pay-to-play' model, I think that 'game tokens' would be a fairer alternative to a subscription, then you only pay for what you play.

I really prefer the current system rather than paying a monthly fee. The way it is now, I ca actually choose what content to buy. So I can decide which expansions I like and which expansions offer me enough new content to pay for it. Also it is easier for you to see what the public wants, since expansions which have fuetures that are in demand, will be likely to be sold more.
I really hope you will not implent a monthly fee (and if you do, please limit it to online use).

I understand the economics of small-time computer game development and publishing well enough, but I may not understand what exactly each expansion gets the buyer and how access to them limit multi-player play, such as of a scenario someone comes up with trying two armies against one another as a sort of FOG trainer.
In any case, though, one question and caution in recommending the game is price, and making the necessary disclaimer that it's going to be more expensive than the rules and companions if you want to play the full range of armies is going to be a deterrent to jumping in for those who are not rich, or hardcore FOG players, or FOG players at all, but would consider the computerized form at a typical software price.
Just for me, I'm not buying any expansions until the game stops creating those 2 top level folders in My Documents rather than letting us tuck them away in My Games or elsewhere. I only annoys me when not playing, which is most of the time. Only two deletions each time, but adds up over time.
Other than that, I'm quite happy with it.

If you have an expansion you will be able to use the armies from it. If not you wont. You will be able to play other opponents who have bought the army, even if you dont have it. Think of it like buying the tabltop army book and all the figures for all the armies in it, already painted and ready to use for the tabletop game. You can use the figures against anyone. You do not need to own the figures your opponent is going to use.
Dont forget the tabletop games requires you to buy the books and then buy the figures, terrain etc. It is an order of magnitude cheaper to play the PC version as we've bought, painted and prepared all the figures for all the armies in the expansion for you!

FoG is one of the most enjoyable games I've bought in quite some time. It's well worth the asking price. For Slitherine to bring out an expansion a couple of months later with so much content and a reasonable price is just right. It builds on an already great game and adds lots more for a small price. I look at console games for £40-£50 and this for £15-£20 and compare how many hours enjoyment I get from each. No contest for me.

Hear, hear! Absolutely agree; don't change the current format.
