I dunno. I was interested in Chichimecs UNTIL I saw the list. Waiting now to see how they are treated in FOGR.
They don't look that bad to me.

Lots of reasonably decent medium foot and plenty of light foot. OK they aren't drilled but I can't see how they would be and they are all unprotected which might be a touch harsh but overall they are no worse than Early Libyans and in a lot of ways are better.

I think Nubian is a more apt comparison.

Really?

Nubian is massed Bow with only a few really poor close combat capable troops. Libyan can have plenty of close combat troops as can Chicimec. The veteran warriors are a total bargain. In my 650 point Libyans I had 2 BGs of 10 average MF impact foot swordsmen. For the same price Chicimecs get superior javelin lightspear sword chaps and if you want you can pay a point a base to make your bow into something better than sparabara.

The more I look at the list the more it appeals.

Oh No!, What Aztecs were to pre DBM WRG, are Chichimecs going to be to FoGAM? Hammy really seems to know what he is talking about with rubbish foot armies so I need to take another look.

Not quite. The Aztec 'problem' was that prety much everyone could shoot and do so with the option to evade if charged. This meant that you could shoot and dodge a few times then when the enemy were a bit weakened your 'skirmishing' warriors closed ranks and charged like loonies. At least in FoG they can't evade.

I can see a goodly number of redeming features in the chichimec list. It may even be reasonably viable in open competition. If everyone else is armoured then unprotected is hardly any worse than protected, OK you have to use an IC but as undrilled that is probably a good plan anyway. The whole army can shoot which will upset skirmishers and the army is pretty cheap. Hmmm....

Well, I shall watch with interest. It would be a lot of fun to paint these guys, and make model saguaro cactus, prickly pear and yucca.

It should also do double duty in FOGR, as they gave the Spanish grief for a long while.

How well do these figures fit in with Gladiator/Black Hat Aztecs?

I don't think they would fit, Kevin. They are very naturally proportioned, and the Glad/BH models are very chunky.

While the Glad models are a bit on the chunky side, bear in mind that most people would look chunky weaking 2 inch thich cotton armour.

Excluding wargamers, of course, all of whom resemble racing snakes...
