Hmm, not sure they had anything to do with the Anasazi.
Ochre body paint and linear tattoos sound quite easy. A hell of a lot easier than Jaguar suits at any rate!

Regarding the Anasazi, I was long ago struck with the stark horror of C. W. Ceram's (Kurt Wilhelm Marek) description of the sudden destruction - apparently by raiders - of some of the proto-pueblos in the southwest. This area of archaeology is a political lightning rod right now, due to insufficient records and present social and political agendas of various people and factions.

Anyway, something like the marauding and collapse during the heydey of Sea Peoples took place and wiped out or displaced some of the Southwestern tribes. Here is an example article: http://www.prestonchild.com/books/thunderhead/art36,132
