No, not yet.

When I reloaded everything CEAW Gold 1.12.1 installed with no troubles and the game runs as it should. I may have over-reacted with the base game as I had sorted it before and it's been fine ever since. However, no luck with the Expansion. If I delete all the settings.txt files I can find in Documents, the DOS Window appears for a short while then goes away - it is blank. Thereafter, with settings.txt in place, the empty DOS Window appears very briefly.; I've tried running as Administrator but no luck there. I can't find any clue with the logfiles on the laptop either. I can't see that this is an Agnitum problem.

Cheers, Mark

The modding rteam have found and fixed an issues that stopped some people playing the expansion - we'll have a fix out soon and hopefully you'll be up and running.

I tried the beta hotfix at http://rapidshare.com/files/319635985/2 ... HotFix.zip and nothing has changed - still the empty DOS box.

kramster, I see your base game is 1.12.1. Did the BJR mod work ok over that before you tried applying the expansion?

Since you've applied the BJR mod in the past I assume you're comfortable with manually applying the mod/expansion. Below are links to the pre-release (i.e., manual copy version) of the expansion and all post release updates.

http://rapidshare.com/files/318804221/2 ... gy_Mod.zip

http://rapidshare.com/files/320391960/2 ... gy_Mod.zip

If you don't mind could you copy the pre-release files over a clean install of v1.12 and then the GS v1.01 updates over that. Then let us know how that works.

rkr1958, hopefully I have understood what you meant me to do.
1. Uninstalled CEAQ and deleted all files in Program Files and Documents.
2. Ran System Mechanic to restore registry as CEAW gold uninstal doesn't work and I could only delete the files.
3. INstalled CAEW Gold vanilla (this is v1.12 right?)
4. Tested - it works.
5. Unzippped pre-release files and and used them to replace the 1939.scn and Game.class in the vanilla directory structure (I can revert to vanilla as I renamed the files).
6. Tested - I get to the splash screen and th game hangs on "Loading Game ..."

I suspect that I should have installed the Expansion over 1.12 and then manually installed the pre-release. Correct/?

In answer to your first question 1.12.1 worked with the BJW mod.

I have the DOS box error in a JPEG - if you give me your email I'll send it to you - mine is mark@watson.name

Regards,
Mark

Success at last.

Here's what I did.
1. Reverted to Vanilla CEAW Gold v1.12
2. INstalled GS expansion
3. Tested - it worked
4. Manually installed 1.01 mods
5. Tested - it works!!!!

It suggests that the v1.12.1 mod was the cause.

Thanks for your collective help. Now I can play!!!!!!!!!!

I believe the cause might be 1.12.1 because neither of the developers had this version. We tried to install it for the vanilla game, but it didn't work because it expects a serial number. We've bought CeaW from v1.00 and upgraded and this version doesn't support serial numbers. It only works for those who bought MH CeaW.

That means the base Java class files we have modified are the ones from v1.12 and not v1.12.1. So the code FirepowerJohan changed between v1.12 and v1.12.1 is NOT present in Grand Strategy. Some class files are not changed by Grand Strategy and if you install v1.12.1 then these updated class files will be used by Grand Strategy. So you might have some code that will try to access methods in the class files that we updated that simply aren't there, since we didn't use the v1.12.1 code as a base for our updates.

When we first tried v1.12.1 we reported it didn't work for people with CeaW and notM MH Ceaw so we got the impression v1.12.1 was withdrawn so Slitherine could try to rewrite the code to also support the players who bought the original game. Since that time we haven't seen any changes to v1.12.1 that we could implement in the Grand Strategy code.

Have anyone tried to install Grand Strategy over v1.12.1 and got it to work?

Yes we tested it here and iot worked fine on a clean copy. I suspect it is related to other updates screwing things up as usual.

Hi, I have Commander Europe at War ( no gold expansion )

For some reason the game won't start when I use the desktop shortcut or any other shortcut for that matter.
The only thing that happens is a dos box which appears briefly then disappears. I have tried uninstalling then installing a couple of times.

The game used to work perfectly until this happened.

Does anyone know how to deal with this problem?

Have you got any virus checker running. These are notorious for stopping some apps like CEAW from starting up. You may have to add the game to the safe list or disable virus checkeing when playing the game.

What version are you on? Are you using the GS expansion?

I am running Avast Anti Virus Scanner, but turning it off doesn't help.
I don't have the GS Expansions

The problem is sometimes the virus checker kills the install process. You may have to install with the virus checker off.

I have tried reinstalling and trying to run the game without the virus protection running and still the same problem :(

The only other thing I can think of is a windows update. If the game used to work and now doesn't it is related to something on your machine changing but I dont know how we can help finding what that might be :(

Have you got it set to run as administrator?

yes the account that it is installed on and the one I'm trying to make it work is set as administrator.
I'll see if there are any windows updates that have recently been installed

Its a bit confusing to see exactly what the problem is as its inside a thread with lots of posts from other people. Just to calrify, you have the origanl CEAW version. I assume it used to work as you would not have waited for 2 years to let us know if it did not! :)

Can you post the problem with your operating system and any other details you think might be relevenat to a new thread just so we have it all in one place. Also let us know the version of CEAW you are running and in which language.

If the game used to work and does not any more then it must be something on your system that has changed. The tricky thing is to find out what.
