The map was very challenging for the Norman army, which lacked any medium infantry. Between the two armies, a narrow patch of clear terrain separated two rough patches, with the patch on the Welsh left leading from some woods to a small lake, and, on the right, leading to a large woods. So it was almost impossible for the Normans to co-ordinate their forces. As a result, the Viking heavies on the right were able to defeat/contain the Norman left while Welsh mediums penetrated the woods on the right, holding back the shieldwall and hiding their left flank in the woods until forces were diverted elsewhere. Nonetheless, the Normans fought well, with the actual battle being closer than the score suggests due to some Welsh/Viking rallies.

Stones1985 (Arab/Sassanid) beat Nosferatu (Frankish) by a score of 62 to 51. My opponent was well ahead at one time, having routed over half my infantry on the left and centre. But my victorious right win cavalry, elephant and and light troops arrived to save the day and sneak the win. Thanks for the game.

Both armies deployed, moved, and attacked as well as they could have, it was lady luck that decided the battle, with the Franks breaking a bit worse than the Vikings and allowing some flanks to help seal the victory. GG against a worthy opponent!

The map allowed little subtlety.
The Arabs ended up forced into attacking uphill as massed Polish archers were gaining the upper hand in a storm of arrows. It became a toe to toe fight. Despite the shock of two German Generals falling over in two consecutive combats there were, very luckily, no adjacent disruptions and the armoured German shield wall mostly uphill ground the Arabs down.
