McAuslin wrote: Thu Oct 02, 2025 12:33 pm I was thinking more of changing some cliff hexes to wire/mine hexes that can be cleared. If you insert a clear hex in a string of wire/mines it allows the Germans to land something and attepnt beach clerances. Conversly it allows the Brits to defend possible clear landing hexes. Let me give the new verison with limited mine laying a go first....
Sure but in the version I made for you there are no defeat triggers (see above link in the message). So you need to tell your opponent not to lay too many mines.

And I'm also going to upload version 1.5 right now

In version 1.5

Germany has 5 extra bombers to force the Royal Navy to stay in their own half of the map

The UK needs to hold Dunkirk and Paris even longer to win (it's not the plan that the game ends that early)

There can be a maximum of 5 landmines on UK soil, otherwise the game ends.

The game lasts 200 turns instead of 150 now, to give Germany enough time.

Added an airfield near Paris

Thanks to VonKing for testing

Not tried 1.6 yet so these points may no longer apply.

As McAuslin mentions, the ability to mine the entire English coast seriously hampers any landing.

The Royal Navy are too strong for any supported landing, certainly in the early stages.

I have won twice with a parachute drop on Dunkirk, supporting German naval units can trash any troops in Dunkirk. Both time neither opponent expected it. Might be worth a big warning :D

But, here's an idea, rather than an auto win maybe move all British Auxiliary units? As in they surrender?

I've also won twice as the Allies by beating the Germans to a pulp, in one case capturing their deployment zone  .

So other than the Dunkirk surprise para drop it looks doable. Yet to complete a long game as we gave up when it was clear a landing was impossible.

Last question, have you considered a 4 player version. The French can be a separate player, make the units core and give them a deployment zone in bottom left corner of the map and in England too. For the Germans just split RP, CP and the units, or make one the Kriegsmarine and luftwaffe?

How do you guys all manage to play the game ten times? I have myself only played it 4 times so far haha.

There is a restriction on mines now, so that should be fine.

I was never planning for an early win at Dunkirk. You are cheating :-D

I managed to get to the very end only once with one of my opponents, and yeah, the Royal Navy was strong.
But now I have added 5 more bombers for Germany.
So now Germany has max 10 fighters (but 9 should be more than enough to control the channel)
And if you assign 6-7 heavy bombers for the British airfields,
you still have 7-8 tactical bombers to keep the Royal Navy at bay.
Once you reduce the airfields, the UK can deploy fewer and fewer planes, and you can convert most of your fighters to additional bombers, and that should be enough for a regular invasion by sea?

I also increased the turn number to 200 so you have time for all this.

My intention is for the UK to stop the invasion in front of London with broken beer bottles. So let me know if the game is well balanced for that now,.

I can do a 4-player version too, sure.
Why do you guys always want 2vs2 though? Doesn't 1vs2 make more sense? I don't think Germany should be separated. It would just weaken coordination, and Germany needs to coordinate a lot to have the right balance in the airforce.

Also not sure if France wouldn't be bored once Paris gets taken

Just happens to be 4 of us, well, 5 really but we can't all play all the time. We started life as a tabletop gaming group so enjoy the witty repartee mid match and more importantly we love the recrimination phase after the game

I think you'd need a new objective for France, like destroy x units - revenge?

Or split British army from RAF and RN?

Separating Germany does give a realism challenge to co-ordinate and reflects C&C difficulties

recrimination like when people bully you when your Japanese tanks are in the way right?

Ok I can change it, but somehow I have no energy right now.. Later ok?

You play with McAuslin right? I made my Normandy map 2vs2 for him and his group.

Lol, no, recrimination phase is the blame game.

Good lord, no rush, it was just ideas for discussion to help playability.

And yes, MacAuslin and I play together with 2 or 3 others.
