oscarius (Spartan) beats Cherebushka (Carthaginian) : 59-30

The two armies met on a broad, flat plain with only a few villages as cover. I decided if it ain't broke, don't fix it and followed the aggressive tactics of my last 3 matches. I immediately advanced my infantry while my opponent deployed asymmetrically to maximise the time for his skirmishers to do their work. My infantry managed to catch many of the Carthaginian skirmishers (the pikes must have been practicing their cardio or perhaps Hannibal's light foot had been partying a bit hard the last night) and crush them. The formidable euzonoi skirmishers also proved lethal to the enemy light horse. With their ranged advantage broken, the Carthaginians had no choice but to stand

Meanwhile my strategy of detaching some spearmen in support of the rather mediocre Roman cavalry also paid off in blocking Hannibal's superior barbarian horse from slipping behind my line until it was too late for them to reach the battleline. The barbaric lack of discipline also showed as a otherwise decisive unit of noble cavalry wasted its time pursuing some light javelins

With their flanks secured and flat terrain, my powerful battleline of pikes and hastati had the edge on the Carthaginian infantry. Fear of my javelineers and the beast's inherently clunky nature kept the Carthaginian trump card of elephants out of the clash until it was too late.

Well-played to Cherebushka. The above narrative doesn't show it but I certainly had a lot of luck as well. One common annoyance for my foe especially was his own fleeing troops blocking potentially lethal flanking attacks what bought my pikes some crucial time to do their work. The early loss of his skirmishers also allowed my pikes to show up to the fight in tip-top shape.
