Other than the base pacific game i want a grand campaign for both the japanese and U.S. the japanese one of course has an ahistorical branch that probably should start at coral sea/midway where they dont lose 4 carriers and were able to land at port moresby. Though playing the historical side of Japan might get dull fast as it is always losing and getting wiped put at each island. Maybe it should always be ahistorical for japan after Midway?
The japanese campaign should start in 1936 china, while the U.S. can even have some start in theatre as well with the flying tigers. Maybe then it goes Pearl Harbor where your troops need to activate airfields to then launch the planes to tie it in.
I also would want the following features to mimic real aspects of the pacific theatre.
1. A ship can only be upgraded through modernization, it can not be made into a new class.
2. Modernizing a ship requires the ship to miss at least one battle, so the player has to strategically figure out when to modernize.
3. Limit the amount of ships a person can purchase at a given time, or make them order for future battles. Ie you cant just purchase 4 carriers at once. But rather you can only purchase one bc that is all the production capacity. Or the other way is that u can “order” ships but they wont be delivered right away but rather later in the campaign. Ie after one or two battles, cant make it too far out. Since this can hurt experience ratings for later battles have an option to take away experience from another ship like a crew exchange. So say i wanted to build the missouri, i can have half the crew of the 4* new mexico transfer ships and then have two 2* ships.
4. Cant completely repair a ship during battle. Also if there is significant damage you cant repair fully between battles. Say a ship has 10 hit pts, and loses 9 in a battle. They can only recover 5 between battles so it would take 2 battles for full recovery. Or u can deploy them not at full strength. Again this would make u diversify your navy.
5. Different carriers can have different amount of planes. And the planes are carrier bound and come with the ship. Ex: bogue class can only service 1 aircrew to start and the player can select what type of plane to be on the ship for each mission. If they get to 4 star experience then they can get a second aircrew. Midway class starts with 5 and can go up to 7 with experience. So players wouldnt have to purchase carrier planes, they purchase the ship and it comes with planes. The damage planes cause is the way carriers gain experience. Players can only purchase land based planes. Players can however upgrade the planes on the ship and choose the configuration. Example one battle i might want 3 fighter squadrons and two dive bombers and the next i might want 2 fighters, 2 dive bomber and 2 torpedo squadrons on that carrier.
6. Airplane replacements are limited for carrier borne aircraft. Also aircraft remain with one carrier for duration of mission.
7. Damage to carrier will reduce number of aircraft that can take off. Say yorktown has 5 aircrews, but gets 50% damage. Only three aircrews can then move on a given turn. Player can choose which 3.
8. Ships help with aa fire.
9. Need night action where U.S. ships get -10% accuracy if they do not have radar.
10. Ships need to be able to torpedo attack as well. Japanese torpedoes were lethal and had long range.
11. Need a mortar infantry to work like light artillery with a range of 2.
12. Night action for troops where japanese get +10% accuracy
13. Strategic bombers are not good at sinking ships. Dive bombers and torpedo planes rule the seas.
14. Somehow caves need to play a role for the japanese
15. Super heroes for JFK, Ford and Bush! Maybe Nixon can be the logistics officer. Haha!
As for european dlcs
1. Allied corps - but the catch is that u have different allotments for the U.S. and the UK or mixed. Some battles will be U.S. only some will be U.K. Only and some the player can choose from both cores.
Or just do a UK/mixed one starting in 1939 or 1940 and do a separate U.S. one starting with operation torch. Maybe an air only operation to help in the battle of britain as some volunteers helped too.
These are my thoughts.
Afika corps would be good too. Maybe with a historical split where it becomes axis operations west and an ahistorical split where it drives past the suez canal and into middle east.
My least favorite would be a russian campaign.
A german plan Z campaign could be interesting too
