It seems I will be playing instead of Nick. Since I have seen the runners and riders I shall put to popular vote whether I should use Libyan Egyptian (more like Hittites, but I've got the army and its no where near as pooh as what Nick had) or the Dominate Romans that I would prefer.
Or is that a bluff or even a double bluff

I vote Libyan Egyptian because there is already a Dominate Roman and there are very few duplicated armies.

Nik - I think of you as less Hittite and more Philistine

Well he's now a Libyan. Due to the enormous amount of votes, nearly better than the Euro elections last night, with a majority of 1 I will be Libyan Gypo's

Would be kinder to you than the Romans.

No I think the Romans would be easier to bust than the Egyptians. Can't catch all the chariots. Hard to kill the Meshwesh. Small Bgs of Romans much easier to deal with.

I would like to repeat Dave's comments and thank Hammy for a great tournament. I really like the 650 AP 1 day tournaments and look forward to the next one in Manchester.
Thanks to my opponents: David Fairhurst, Phil (Libyan Egyptian) and Steve Clarke for being gracious in both victory and defeat. Also thanks to all the other competitors who took time out to talk to me.
Thanks Dave for your enjoyable company. It was great to place 6th after my debacle at Ascot. Long may I reign in the top half of competitions.
See you all again soon.

I can only echo the sentiments above.
This was my first competition with FOG being a veteran of five games with friends beforehand and it was a delight from several points of view - friendly and fun, the format of the competition was great with three rounds in a day, the rules seemed to play really well in a competition environment without too much need for the umpire ...
I had three excellent games using my Ottoman Turks against Roger Draper's Indians, Martin Hayes and his Early Persians and finally Bob Medcraft with his Lithuanians. All the games were fabulous fun and I learned a lot - thank you to my opponents for helping me out from time-to-time with the rules. The game I had with Martin was my favourite to-date with lots of fighting and the result swinging one way and then the other.
Thanks to Hammy for organising everything - like clockwork with minimum fuss - excellent!

I do hope there will be a brief summary of the event.
I for one am very interested in the 650 point, 5'x3', 2.5 hour format. So much so that while having a cuppa this afternoon I dug out Nik's Slingshot article on the same event in 2008.

This is just my personal views.
The size of the table ie 5' by 3' is what allows most if not all games to be completed within the time span. On Saturday those games that went to the wire was played by people who may have been very new to FOG or who were showing newish people the opperation of the rules. I mean no disrespect to those just for those with the rules experience you can get in close quick and theres a solution soonish.
I think the three foot tables work for armies heavy in Infantry and maybe the few Shooty Cavalry armies taken may agree with me, I'm not saying this is a bad thing just an obeservation.
Also for those newish to FOG 650 points allows for less units and maybe a less steep learning curve in tactices.
I am sure Hammy can put together a better run down of the 650 points show, but the fact of getting to play three games with a large percentage finishing in time is a plus.
I personnaly would hope someone would maybe have a weekend event with 650 points to see if that would work over a longer time scale.
Just a few thoughts I hope others would add more and this style could move forward.
