By using allies, we mean adding some of their troops (during the unit selection phase) to your army ? Or we mean they will appear at a different spot in the map as happens sometimes in Campaign games?

Thanks for all the answers so far.

Hi

Allies are included in selection phase. Matches are all 'open battle' with no special rules such as late arriving units.

A) The season lasts 12 weeks; games may start on Jan 7 and all must be finished by Mar. 31.

B) Usually, a division is made up of 10 players though sometimes they may be slightly smaller if we have less sign ups for a period. You play each person in your division once, for a total of 9 games. Some players post all their challenges initially, and then play games as opponents pick them up. Others post 2-3 at a time and post more as they finish those up.
Thanks, I assume that you play just once with each player (in a mirror match), meaning that if you accept his challenge, you don't need to create later a challenge against him ?

David
Hi David - just to clarify. TDC battles are not mirror matches, you only play your chosen army.

In practice it usually means this
You see the map and before you choose your army and deploy you finish your turn and send the game back to your opponent with a chat entry saying
"Very sorry don't like this map .. I am reposting the game and PW is .... xyz"

You can do that once and your opponent could do that once but a third map must get played πŸ˜ƒ.

Can you not have a third reroll - that would be the 4th map - if both agree ?
Rerolls - Either player may unilaterally require the map be rerolled twice. A third reroll may be done if both players agree.

Yes, if both agree, a final 3rd reroll would be the 4th and final map.

After further discussion, the coordinators have voted to amend the rules related to rerolls and restarts as follows:

1. Rerolls

Either player may unilaterally require a reroll after viewing the map in the initial deployment phase. Each player is allowed one such reroll. If each player has used their permitted reroll then both players may mutually agree to a third and final reroll. The player requiring the reroll should surrender the match. The player requiring the reroll should repost the challenge making sure to set the parameters correctly in regards to lists, points and map size. No rerolls are allowed after the first turn is played.

2. Restart

Players may mutually agree to abandon a game and restart until the 3rd turn for whatever reasons they might have. From the 4th turn, games must be played to conclusion. No rerolls are allowed in restarted games; you must play on whatever map is rolled.

This revision brings TDC in line with reroll rules used in a number of other tournaments run through the forums and clarifies the restart option which is alluded to, but not well defined in the rules as written.

I have removed some earlier contradictory posts to avoid confusion over the current rules.

Karvon

"Players cannot use the same army list, variant army or same allies in the same period the following season. Nor can they use the same army list in a different period the following season. However they can use a "variant" army or allies in a different period the following season.

Variant (Armies) – All armies that have the same β€œfirst” name, for example Roman, Carthaginian, Byzantine and so on"

I have a question here about army eligibility. Is it allowable to enter the same army in two different periods in this TDC if it spans two of the time periods. For example Thracian Triballi has armies that crosses more than one period. Assuming of course that you you have not used that army before. It doesn't seem to me, from the wording above, to be excluded.....

After some discussion, this is what we've decided:

In submitting your three picks for a period, each pick must be unique; you can not pick the same list more than once, though you may submit variants. If you are playing in different periods, you may not submit the same list for more than one, though you may submit variants.

For example, if playing in Classical, you could opt for:

1 Roman 280-220 BC
2 Roman 219-200 BC
3 Thracian (Triballi) 700-351 BC

Two of them are Romans, but they different lists; they are variants.

Now if you were also playing in Bronze Age, you wouldn't be able to select those Thracians as a pick for that period as it is one of your choices for Classical.

If the lists of competitors for a division have been posted (with all 3 army choices) and some competitors have the same armies do we wait for the leader of the division to post a final list with the assigned armies (e.g. choosing competitor A will get their first choice and competitor B will get their 2nd choice)?

Thanks,
bebold

The period coordinators will post the final lists by Jan. 7.
We are discussing a rules amendment to deal with ties in ELO scores and will post an update in a day or two.

First tourney question. For tournament games should we create them as RANKED CHALLENGES or leave as open with password?
Thanks

We are not using ranked challenges this season.

You should create your challenges with a password sent to your opponent to ensure someone else doesn't pick up the challenge accidentally.

For Late Medieval Divisional games I see a lot of 24x32 games set up, but the challenge forum says 32x32/1200. Are we doing 32x32 or 24x32?

32x32 for Medieval. I did see that lots of maps were 24x32 but this is a bug with the MP screen and actual matches are being played correctly. Bug should have been fixed, but maybe legacy challenges still show incorrect.

Please post results in the period results forum; there is one for each.

It has been fixed, but the fix only affects new challenges going forward, so old challenges will still show 24 x 32. They will, however, use the originally set map size when played out.

I have just completed my first battle and have finally got around to reading the rules. What does ELO stand for?
