Here's what I've come up with so far for the tactical interface rules. Feedback is welcome
21.TACTICAL GAME INTERFACE
Battles may be optionally resolved using other tactical rules or software. Examples of how this may be done are provided using Field of Glory II for land battles and Mare Nostrum for sea battles.
21.1 Only select situations are eligible for resolution using a tactical option.
21.11 A defending player whose force is in the open and has a leader present may opt to resolve a pending battle using a tactical game.
21.12 An attacker catching an enemy force in the open may opt to resolve a pending battle using a tactical game.
21.13 Any attacks upon flipped units, those in a city or town, must be resolved using the Punic Wars combat system.
21.14 Difference in leader ratings will shift the odds .5 per pt of advantage.
21.15 Any attack at more than 3 to 1 odds are beyond the reasonable scaling range of the software and must be resolved using the Punic Wars combat system.
21.16 After battles, defender losses will applied at 100% and attackers at 50% in conversion back to SPs.
21.17 If a CinC dies, he will be replaced per Punic War rules.
21.2 Using Field of Glory II for land battles. Field of Glory II is a tactical ancient army battle simulation by Richard Bodley Scott of Byzantine Games available from Slitherine.
21.21 ASPs are converted to FOG2 at a rate of 1 to 400.
21.22 As FOG2 has a maximum of 2000 pts for an army, the smaller force will be scaled downward relatively to the larger if these exceed 2000 pts.
21.23 Battles are open battles.
21.24 The defender chooses base terrain.
21.241 Terrain options are as follows: North Africa – desert, med – agricul, med – hilly, Italy/Sicily/Iberia/So France - med – agricul, med – hilly, Illyria/Gaul – no eur – agricul, no eur – hilly, no eur – forest.
21.25 Both sides may opt for one unilateral reroll of the map. If mutually agreed, a final third reroll can be done.
21.3 Using Mare Nostrum of sea battles. Mare Nostrum is a tactical ancient naval battle simulation by Alejandro Alonso of Turnopia available from Matrix Games.
21.31 ASPs are converted to FOG2 at a rate of 1 to 300.
21.32 As MN has a maximum of 3000 pts for a fleet, the smaller force will be scaled downward relatively to the larger if these exceed 3000 pts.
21.33 Battles are skirmishes.
21.34 The defender chooses the map.
21.35 If an admiral’s ship is sunk or captured, he is considered killed if his side loses the engagement. If his side wins, he has a 50% chance of survival.
