thanks. so when you were prompted did you choose previous or close? for all the Russians headed your way, don't seem to be many slots? did u use any infantry or artillery or just a Tank slugfest?
Only 2-3 infantry, mostly tanks, and at least 2 AT. Optional is a recon or two and maybe one or two artillery pieces. The AT are the key, at least for me, especially if you have a camo hero to put on them and those two AT/AA heroes you should have gotten earlier. Strong tanks can overrun a lot of enemy units and cover them with your AT or just be careful that you don't use up all their ammo in overruns! Don't sit on your heels, but don't be overly aggressive either. I focus my efforts in the north and in the southeast corner and then move west. The stronger/larger of the two battle groups is the one in the south since that is where you will find stronger enemy forces. It turns out that my two railroad station guarding grenadiers are able to hold because my successes on the other side of the river draw away Soviet forces to them instead of an overwhelming attack on the railroad station.
But once

the patch comes out, I think you'll see a lot of changes in many of these scenarios that will require a change in tactics and units you deploy.

I used more Tanks. I have a couple of AT Heroes allowing my Tanks to double in their roles. My SU took too much damage the last battle and the Emil is too slow. I used one 21, zero Slots, double attack, consolidator to 20 strength. I also used only 1 aircraft, the 109Z with Rudel, that can cover almost the whole map. OS 15,1.5X, crippling blow. every turn when it could fly it knocked out a Tank or an Infantry unit trying to get thru to an airfield so I didn't have to send chasers after stray units. I did notice when I got across, when I captured all the flags they don't give points? noticed that in other battles too? I always go after them thinking maybe there's hidden cache. so which battle next? seems to be a choice of 1 outta 2, then looking at the chart should finish the 4 2?

Oh, I did the same on Infantry, 2 Toreador Azuls, one a monster unit with overrun.

No, at some point during '42 I upgraded it. It was taking constant heavy loses to the point that I felt it was ridiculous.

I did the same. do you still play with no OS? which path did you choose to get outta Stalingrad? I'm not addicted to the 4 2. more like finish it and wait for the next DLC or Pacific. Did you play Pacific General in the Order of Battle series? they're going to have to change the return to base after every flight unless they give the planes crazy range?

I like AO42, but I wish it maybe had one more land battle, preferably another Stalingrad slog in place of or in addition to one of the air only scenarios of which I like the "Channel Dash" one the best. I always play with OS, or at least whenever possible within the framework of slot space and so on. I have played both paths, actually all paths of all DLCs. When the patch comes out, I think I'll be taking the Grozny path. I really like those two maps. For end of '42 I expect I'll play both for the experience and to have cores ready for both fictional and historical pathways in AO43.
I own OoB but never could get into it. I did play Pacific General but didn't like it much. It's been so long that I really can't remember much in terms of details like why beyond that. I played Allied General more than Pac General. Played PG2 even more than the original because of all the great user made campaigns and other mods. Played some People's General too, but not a ton.
Yes, I am very curious what changes they will make to the Pacific campaign as it is ripe for a lot of innovation and new interesting ideas. Time will tell. My best guess is that it will be released in December in time for the holidays. Anything earlier would surprise me.

I was talking about the Pacific War in the OOB series. I think that's different than Pacific General, which I've never played. I loved the old Civil War Generals 2. that game updated with PZ2 type Heroes, Naval Campaigns with blockade runners and Ironclads, Supply Depots and Trains, both for supply capture and rapid troop transport, Calvary with overrun, double attack/ support artillery, with fast deployment, shell selection, Spies, etc. would be fantastic. not to mention the whole western theater and both the historical and non historical paths including riots against the war in the North and slave uprising in the South.
