However, i think, that this battle is unfair for the Imperial side and almost impossible to win.
Unbelievable result Gribol, please give us a report of this momentous battle as I wonder how all the Imperial Shock Cavalry, Artillery and thousands of Muskets could not even get 1 % ???? You are a Military Genius Gribol.

Your 3 Victories in this Ottoman Campaign have had outstanding results, you are a brilliant P&SC exponent.

I have played St Gotthard three times before this Event, in 2015, and won twice using the Ottomans & once using the Imperialists. All three games against Dang who is no walk-over.
Much depends on how the Imperialist Player plays, attacks right from the start or pulls back and defends behind the hedges etc, which means the Ottomans have to go out of the woods and attack, suffering heavy casualties in the process.
All the Ottoman wins reported so far have been against very aggressive Imperialists.
My current game against PanCalvus is totally different from those posted, he is very skillful at not charging like a Bull at a Gate and has me tied up in knots & not knowing what to do next.

Also Gribol please remember that these Events are not FOGII type competitions where every point counts and if there is no chance of a win you go hide in the woods at the back of the battlefield, they are a means of meeting other P&SC gamers, playing Historical Battles & MP games against Historical Foes. I don't think another Round is necessary myself.
Alan sums it up very well in his introduction to the Event.
I quote
" Thanks to everyone so far for entering. I should add that the spirit of our event is to have fun, discover the game and different armies. Obviously, because it is a wargame, one wants to win but hopefully the winning and losing can happen in a friendly way, with chat and discussion along the way and good after-game reports (see previous posts in our former P&S and SJ events from Gdod, who is the master of this). For inexperienced players in particular, or any of us who play Snuggles, it is nice to have a debriefing afterwards so they can learn (assuming they have not won the game!) "

There are many Gifts & Honours awaiting you on your return to Constantinople.

Thank you for that.
I just have got a bit of luck in all my battles, and unfortunatelly, but as usual and with my expectations, i lost with Snugglebunnies. So i am no so good :)

The way for St. Gotthard was very simple - block left flank (river crossing) with cavalry, send Janissaries to the central forest and "shot them all". Thats it. Without any nicety or complicated maneuvers. Its just works.
I have got luck, that i can retreat with 3 my fragmented inflantry units back without break. Thats why there is 0% and not, for example, 10-20% on my side.

Well, thats right, that a pull back and waiting for Ottomans can be good idea in this situation.

GentlemanRankers Ottomans finally managed to overcome GDod’s Imperial army 13 – 44

The battle proceeded much as with the other reported games; stalemate on the Ottoman left flank, as the cavalry clashed in the deep stream. The game was won in the centre, with the superior janissaries outshooting the Imperial infantry in, and around the woods, with the covering force of light cavalry and azaps doing unexpectedly well, managing to rout much of the Imperial cavalry and infantry which crossed the river on the Ottoman right.

Gavin and I would agree with the emerging consensus that the best tactic for the Imperial army is to fall back, letting the Ottomans cross the river unopposed, and make the Ottomans advance into musket and cannon fire, allowing their impact(pistol) cavalry to fight in the open. I wonder what SnuggleBunnies has done?

Thanks to Gavin for a spirited effort against overwhelming odds.

Mostly I did play defensive, but I attempted a crossing and assault on the left... bad idea, repulsed with massive casualties. I fell back out of musket shot of the central forest, while keeping my right wing cavalry out of bow shot of the river; all to no avail, it's a catastrophe for the Imperial army.

Our game just ended - 56-28 in favor of the Ottomans. I think this scenario punishes any aggressive play for the Imperial side too much, unfortunately, wouldn't call it fair. Anyway, thanks for the game!

Well Done Nosy Rat, The Sultan has a Large Kaftan heading your way and promotion to Pasha, with 3 Yak Tails, Sipah Salar .

Note, This was an Historical Battle Scenario to fit in with the Ottoman Campaign as organised by Alan, all part & parcel of the historical timeline and opponents of the Ottomans. Having a mixture of MP games & historical games makes these different from a straight out competition.
What will be Alan's next Event ? That is the question.

Mighty Sultan, by the Grace of Allah I have avenged my family's dishonorable battle record and routed the false emperor's host. My staff scholar estimates 42% of the Germans routed from the battlefield compared to our 12%. A mere 662 of your subjects died to secure this most great of victories for their Sultan.

Allah has indeed Graced you and your Family snooky51. Promotion to Bey will be bestowed upon you along with a large Kaftan & a sparkling Nishan on your return to Constantinople.
Insha'allah

The Sultan leads his troops to Victory at St Gotthard Imperials 51% Ottomans 8%

The battle started with the Imperialists withdrawing into defensive positions inviting the Ottomans to attack , I was wondering what to do and was preparing to advance the Janissaries out of the woods and the Cavalry over the river when I made a mouse click blunder and instead of wheeling a verteran Janissary unit on the edge of the woods I advanced out into the open where two moves later it was routed. This obviously prompted Pan Calvus to charge all along the line and it was not too long before Imperialists were entangled in the river against the Sipahis and in the woods against the Janissaries, leading to an Ottoman Victory.

So our team event is coming to a close. Clearly this last scenario was very difficult for the 'Enemies' team, as, to be honest, was the first game (Mohacs).

I know there are a couple of games ongoing,
Dang v Kerry D
ahuyton v SMJohnso77 (I replaced Veles who has sadly gone AWOL)

We will finish these off and report the results, and then perhaps debrief. In the meantime, I will post an idea for a new event to start in March.

My game with SMJohnso77 came, perhaps inevitably, to an unhappy end for the Imperialists, and I believe that Dang v Kerry D is in suspension due to illness (we wish Kerry D's wife well),

So that brings us to the end of the Ottoman event and I hope you all found some fun at least...

Alan,

It was definitely fun , thanks for running it. Although a couple of the games were a little 'uneven' I still enjoyed the challenges they set. I don't believe these events are all about the winning to be honest. I' m sure we Imperialists found glory in our brave defeats and especially in some unlikely wins!☺
