Is it just me or has the scale of the figures compared to the scenery changed? It doesn't look so good to me scale wise but that may just be an illusion created by the snazzy colourful units and banners

I think the trees are a bit bigger.

Weird , I thought they were smaller , Haha! Must be an illusion due the colourfulness of the figures!

@Paul59 link to the original post? Sounds like we will have to wait and see....given that the underlying system is similar....but I imagine that some ahistorical matchups might get rather wonky balance wise. It still would be cool to have the option to face off hoplites versus knights etc potentially assuming they find a way to make it work. But, obviously a new standalone has a lot of potential to really create a solid medieval experience that evolves the FoGII system. I'm sure it will bring in new folks that weren't fond of the Ancients so much but, love the Middle Ages.
But, ideally we will see a Pike and Shot 2 one of these days....and maybe a Horse and Musket game!

+1
...maybe called 'FoG2: Renaissance' after 'FoG2(: Ancients)' and 'FoG2 : Medieval' ?

I already add it in my Steam wishlist. I think, it will be a nice surprise. One step forward from FoG II.

I am a bit confused. Wasn´t the Medieval Era supposed to be part of FoG2?
The plan is still for the FOG2
system to eventually cover 2500 BC - 1500 AD from Britain to India, with FOG2: Ancients covering 2500 BC-1040 AD, and FOG2: Medieval covering 1040-1500 AD.
We felt that although the underlying game system remains substantially similar, the Medieval period merited several rules changes to better suit the period, including a rebalanced points system to better reflect the changed balance between the different unit types in the Medieval period.
The Medieval period was thus better separated off as a game in its own right rather than DLCs for FOG2: Ancients. This allowed us to give it a new Medieval look and sound, and also take the opportunity to improve the UI.
Thanks for the clarifications Richard. I am already looking forward to what I hope would be the first FOGIIM DLC: "Storm of Arrows".

English 100 Years War was the first Medieval miniatures army I painted. ( for DBA at the time).

Ok. Given how good your games are, I suppose you could sell me a fridge if I were an Eskimo. Though the Medieval Era shares first place of least interesting periods for me with World War One.

Well, I am really looking forward to this new game! However I am wondering if I will need to buy a new computer or video card? Have the computer requirements been upped significantly?

Steam pages say :
MINIMUM (FoG2):
OS: Windows 7 / 8 / 10
Processor: 2.0GHz or higher
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: 1 GB DirectX 9 Compatible Graphics Card
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 1541 MB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible sound card
MINIMUM (FoG2: Medieval):
OS: Windows 8 / 10
Processor: 2.0GHz or higher
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: 1 GB DirectX 9 Compatible Graphics Card
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 2 GB available space
The minimum requirements seem identical.

Hello there,
this actually did wake me up. I for one have to say that I look forward to FOG2: Medevil.
But FOGs2 campaign system was not one of my favorites. These days i mostly play FOG:E battles with it so will medevil get a improved campaign system.......or even "whispers" the FOG:E
treatment later on ?
( I am pretty sure i will not get a positive answer to my second question even if something is planned , but hey a man try dream can he not ?

)
regards
Kai

From the battles and listed nations it seems I believe Seljuks and Byzantine isn't that much important in scenarios in next FOG II title. Only Bulgarians revolt against Byzantine. Cumans as faction present, no Peçenek and Seljuk Turks and no battle mentioned as Battle of Manzikert. (1071). And will it be compatible with Ageod next game?

This release is Northern and Western Europe. The Mediterranean and East will be covered in DLC, as will the 14th and 15th centuries.

Here's the list of armies that'll be included in the base game I copied/pasted from the product page linked in the opening post:
Anglo-Saxons, Normans, post-conquest English, French, Imperial and Feudal German, Lowland Scottish, Highland/Isles Scottish, North and South Welsh, Irish, Anglo-Irish, Low Countries, Free Cantons, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Bohemian, Polish, Teutonic Knights, Old Prussians, Lithuanians, Russians, Hungarians, Cumans, Volga Bulgars and Mongols.
So no Spain, no Italy, no Balkans and no Anatolia or Middle East.

Indeed, from the product page, the base game of FoGII Medieval is "set in 11th-13th century North and Central Europe". So no South Europe, etc. in the base game.
But, as a reminder, from its own page, the base game of FoGII (Ancients) was set "during the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC". That's all ! It has been expanded quite a bit since, geographically and in terms of timeframe...
And we've already been told that the Medieval game is to cover the period from 1040 to 1500 AD.
So I think you can be confident about the nations and medieval periods you like, even if they are not in the base game atm.
(not to mention all the FoG tabletop books and army lists Richard wrote about the timeframe and his dedication to the FoG series)

Looks nice enough - I'll certainly be purchasing it.
Hopefully the security around multiplayer has been sorted in this new incarnation.
